Is it worth it ever? I have a friend who drives a cavalier. This car has had a few poblems in the past and she is considering buying an extended warrentee. Is there anything to watch out for? Companies that she should not deal with? Any advice would be appreciated.

I got a 4 year, 75,000 mile fleet warrentee that I'll get refunded if I never use it. I have a three year car loan (0%) , and after two years I did about 35,300 miles. Meaning that the original 3/36 would be up by the end of next week. If the engine blew, I didn't want to be paying on a car that doesn't work.

I'd never get one. But then I'd never buy a Cavalier either. ;)

I am a fan of exteneded warranties, however because I normally don't keep a car for more than 2-3 years, and modify them also, I never bother with it. Its a good idea to get a extended warranty on particular types of cars (BMW, Mercedes, Jag, etc) because labor and parts costs are through the roof! I was paying $350 for a oil change and inspection on my 2002 BMW M3 for example.

Actually you're quite right, now that I think of it...They cover even things like clutch wear while it's under warranty.
