The anti-roll bar is a bar that goes between the lower suspension pieces on each side and lets the car go up anbd down freely while restricting it's ability to have the opposite wheels go up and down independantly.

Sigh at what? Would a plethora of stickers all over my car make you feel better? 😛

Well, I'd say all, not most. If you are getting out of 2nd gear on an Auto-X course, you are probably doing something wrong. And it's not worthless, it teaches you proper driving technique.

Since when do you lose HP when switching to a freer-flowing muffer?Originally posted by: Demon-Xanth
Look into what metal it is more than anything, that'll let you know how long it will last.
Friend's 650HP 377==exhaust makes a difference
Brother in law's friend's 925HP 357==exhaust makes a signifigant difference
Brother in law's 250-300HP 350==barely any difference, if any at all
They're all the same basic block, (chevy SB) all naturally aspirated, all carburated, but unless you're in a wild setup the exhaust won't do much for performance other than make it sound better/worse.
(I think I lost 1-2 HP when I changed out my muffler for a freer flowing one, but the tone was worth it)

Not all, most. Maybe on an underpowered 4 cyl you don't have enough power to leave second gear, but I have more power than that.
A road course teaches proper driving technique also. And the course is larger, and much more entertaining than a cramped parking lot course.

But would you really want to go on a road course with someone that might not even know how to take the proper line on a turn? I think it's better to learn to walk before you run. Of course it all depend on the driver, but generally I'd suggest most people take it to Auto-X before a road course.
I guess it depends on where you live but out here most of the Auto-X courses are designed so most people shouldn't get out of 2nd. Yes, even blown Camaro's very rarely get out of 2nd.

You do realize you're talking about putting a "performance" exhaust system on a Corolla, right?

Bah @ you.
I stated that the rear sway bar (suggested by someone else, I might add) was a bad idea. I also mentioned that a turbo would be way too expensive. What is your problem?
I don't know if you realize this...but it's my car, and I can do whatever I want with it.

**but I'm just looking to make it a little more fun to drive (cold air intake & exhaust).
**Unless I spend way too much money on a custom turbocharger, there's no way I'm spending $400+ on an exhaust system..lol
**Where did I say I was going to make it "fast"? Go thread crap somewhere else.
Thanks to all who helped out..and to those who can't refrain from their post-count increasing thread craps, go find a ricer to complain about. As they say..straights are for fast cars; corners are for fast drivers. I'm not a big 1/4 mile fan..because I know I'm not going to be fast. Autox is something that I could have a chance in.

More than likely not, but it doesn't hurt to dream does it? Well, unless the dream is delusional.

So, all autocross drivers drive Porsches, BMWs..etc? No Civics, Integras, etc? Eh..whatever.

Try some nice struts like adjustable konis and a thicker anti-roll bar before you drop it, dropping it changes so much stuff and costs alot to do right....
The drop comes with the spring setup -- Eibach/Tein springs and Tokico/KYB struts are usually recommended at the forum I'm on. I don't think I'll get any decent handling by keeping the stock springs.
I'm not sure what you're referring to with "anti-roll bar" -- I do have a strut bar (between the front strut towers) which wasn't stock, but I hear stiffening the rear sway bar in my car can cause unpredictable oversteer without warning.

I can't afford to get really serious about autox -- and if I did, I definitely wouldn't be driving a 4door FWD sedan.. 🙂
Thanks for the input..they carried both Magnaflow and Flowmaster, so I'll have to look at both.
I'm pretty sure my current strut bar isn't aluminum -- I was suprised by how solid it was.

Can't afford?? Whoa... you can't afford to buy tires yet you're buying an exhaust? Heh, you can autoX your car with just performance shocks and your catback and still be in the stock class.
Fees range around $25-35 for the whole day of racing. The car control and driving skill you learn will carry over to any car you get from there on in. It will also make you a safer driver.

I'm just saying that it isn't worth it. It sounds like you're becoming a car enthusiast, I am too. I too wish I had a fast car, but I don't. Not even close. So I'm not going to bother spending money on it now, but rather continue to learn so maybe in a couple years I would be able to get a faster, enthusiast car.
