YACT: Engine Experts - Need advice on Olds 3800 Series 2 engine!

Looking to do a few mods on the engine for my Oldsmobile and I'm looking for advice. Since my grand plans for a super sports car have failed, I'm kind of setting my sites quite a bit lower. But anyways, here's my plan. My 96 olds has a supercharged 3800 series 2 in it that runs 240hp stock. Friend of mine helped me with fuel system mods about 2 weeks ago, so we've bumped the HP up around 260 or so. What I'd like to do next is to put either a turbo or a blower style kit onto the engine, or some type of intake assist kit that will jump the HP to around 320-340hp if possible without hurting the engine.

Any of you engine experts got any ideas? I'm no big car expert, so I'm not even sure this is possible and my friend doesn't know either. If it's not possible, what mods can I do to bump the HP up some more? I want to milk her for all she's worth, but preferably without destroying her.

what fuel mod did you do to give you 20hp?

get yourself a smaller pulley to up the boost and a chip. try checking out some of the GTP sites around for other ideas.


btw it's a buick motor, not an olds.

first off what fuel mods did you do? You gained no horsepower from them.

and you can remove the current supercharger and....

add a bigger supercharger, or a turbo, or twin turbo

or maybe you can use another belt on your current supercharger to get more boost.....


but whatever you do sounds like you're going to fubar your car

Well, I see it in Olds more than Buick, that's why I call it the Olds 3800.

The mods as I remember them right (I didn't install them, friend did) was a more powerful fuel pump to increase the preasure on the lines, a midline fuel pump to increase the preasure more, and some different injectors that do Gaud knows what above and beyond normal injectors, but they apparently help the fuel burn better. Beyond that, I can't tell you much. I just know that there was a noticable power difference after they were done when I took it out for a drive. That's definately for certain!

And what do you mean by a smaller pully to up the boost? Which pully to where? And what chip? Think non-car geek here. My specialty is PC's not cars. I like fast and powerful cars, but when it comes to moding them for power I'm clueless. I know the basics, but that's about it and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Oh, THAT'S the pully he's talking about. Ok. *duh*. Question though, how would this fubar my car? Would it be because I'm going to be putting too much strain on the engine?

putting in larger injectors and a bigger pump is useless without upping the boost. The pulley i am referring to is the one on the blower, by making it smaller in diameter the blower will spin more times per revolution of the crankshaft pully, thus upping the boost level. If you DO do this, however, make sure you use premium fuel to avoid pinging. If you do not know what you are doing I do suggest you do your research before you even think of opening the hood. I do not know the common tweaks for the 3.8's so again i suggest you check out clubGTP(i think that's the name) and do some reading on their forums.

Buick developed the 3.8(made famous in the grand national)

No that engine is a tank.. I'm saying it cus it sounds like you know nothing about cars...

Ok so you got a new higher output fuel pump and larger fuel injectors...
Now you are just pumping more gas into the engine than you need currently.... Look for a big decrease in gas milage... You got a small increase in hp but it's mostly in your head... I don't know if your cars computer knows how to adapt to those changes.
