Want to fix it for free ?

It will take only two minutes of your time, an amazingly simple fix.

Would you like to know how it's done ?

If your cat is a melted block inside, removing it won't hurt the environment any more than it already is.

Urban legend says lots of people with well running cars still pass emissions testing with their cats removed or hollowed out. I have no idea if that is true or not.

I believe you can buy aftermarket cats for about $120-150, and any muffler shop should be able to install it for a reasonable fee.

PS: Anybody seen any good studies about what san diego being on fire did to the air quality there? I'm curious what the "equivalent" to car emissions is.....

False, this is impossible.

Some folks just gut them, that way it LOOKS like you still have one on there.

You need to weld a straight pipe inside the cat if you do this. If you don't, the cat will act as a resonance chamber, spitting out a crappy, hollow sound to your exhaust.
