YACT: do you guys rotate car tires?

I rotate mine every 4,000 miles along w/ my oil change at the same time.

EDIT: For the guy taking it off the rim, UGH uni-directional tires!!!

Some tires (mostly high end ones, like my old Toyo Proxes) could only be on the "left" or "right" side unless you actually removed the tire and flipped it to a rim on the other side...SUCH a pain! Due to this, your only option is to rotate front-to-back on the same sides which isn't exactly effective.

No. I can't rotate mine without taking the tires off of the rims.
just curious, why do you have to take the tires off the rim?
you haven't seen them do it at a shop before?

No, I mean why does he need to take the tires off the rims to do a rotation... other than maybe he has directional tires (i do too, I can only same side rotations).

No, it's hardly worth the price, and even if it's free, all it takes is a doofus not tightening them up correctly to warp the rotors.

So, I say HELL NO!!

I just rotate when it comes to take the summers off and put the winters on... when the summers go back on after the winter, they get swapped around. my last set of tires after about 90,000 kms had just about perfectly even wear.

Mazda3 2004, has not been rotated 15k miles

Tiburon 2005, has not been rotated 6.5k miles

So I dont feel like jacking up my car and blocking it and taking an hour to do this. How much would it cost at some reliable place, and is it even worth the $$ on new cars, and compared to how many miles it saves?

my friend does this to keep car well balanced. rotate tires from left rear to right front and left front to right rear.

i'm not sure if i should rotate mine. my car only has 9k miles and it's 2004 nissan xterra. i believe my tires are just fine now.

do you guys rotate tires?
Yes, every other oil change or 5-6K miles. Your owners manual will tell how to rotate your tires. Most FWD cars are front wheels straight back and rear wheels cross to the front. Most RWD cars are front cross to the back and rears straight forward. Some cars have directional tires, designed to go in only one direction, and must be rotated front to back on the same side.

Good Luck,
Quixfire

Tell me how not tightening up the wheel nuts can warp the brake discs...

I rotate them myself every other oil change.

While the wheels are off, I clean the brake dust off the inside of the
rims and eye-ball the brakes.

G/Y

Hmmm, when I get that $100 Visa GC from the Schwab deal I'm gonna buy a jack & jackstands. Then I will rotate my tires myself 🙂 I did it once a while ago myself on my '93 Concorde with a tiny jack and some jackstands, damn was that biotch
