YACT: do you believe in those performance enhancing fluids ?

I'm not talking about NOS-type stuff (yes I know it's not a fluid)... or synthetic oils, I'm talking about the stuff on the store shelves like transmission fluid protectants and other stuff that seems unnecessary. Are these things worthwhile ?

I like the Can of Lincoln-Wanna-Be, used to make Aspires and Rangers quiet when driving down the road. :D

Performance Enhancing Fluids? Well, I use lube sometimes when my wife and I....Wait, did you say cars? I don't know what I'm talking about... :Q ;) :D

some stuff works and others don't... and it also depends on how you use them.... i.e. some brake fluids have a dry boiling point than others, if you're extremely hard on your brakes and you generate a lot of heat (by a lot, i mean, you probly have to be doing laps around a track) then you might need something with a higher bp, but you gotta keep as much water vapor out as possible... then some fluids just work better for their specific purposes just b/c they do... i mean, it all depends on what you plan on doing w/ ur car, whether your fluids are good enough... and even when you change, if you go top of the line stuff, it doesn't make TOO much of a difference....

ok, there's my two sided explanation. :p

I think they're mostly gimmicks. If you want real performance, you're not going to get it from a $5 bottle of fuel injector cleaner. You need to do some serious engine modifications first. On the other hand, some of this stuff might help protect your engine and make it last longer and run more smoothly.

Those things are full of isht... if it says it'll raise your octane rating by 5 points... ha yeah right... don't buy that crap. They put it in neon packaging for a reason.

you mean dura-lube and slick50?
that's not performance enhancing.. it's life extending.. i dont trust them
i use synthetic oil every 5K and the car should be fine for a long time.

No, they're all garbage unless you're a petroleum chemist and know exactly what you're doing.

At what temperature?

I think a more relevant question would be "at what pressure?".

i believe temp & pressure both make a diff. iirc

But we're talking about Nitrous Oxide, and how are you going to get a contraption that keeps the gas cold enough to be a liquid and put it in your car? On the other hand, keeping it at high pressure is as simple as putting it in a bottle.

So in this case, asking "what pressure?" would have been the common sense question.

Mostly no they are, if anything, wasted money and, at worse, bad for your car. Skip them. I've heard the radiator stop leak is actually kind of useful though.

It depends. If you have an old car, some injector/carb cleaner will probably do some good.

Dumping toluene into the tank is pretty effective.
