For those who have cars they enjoy detailing, I need some advice. Can someone give me some tips on cleaning the engine bay. What are some of your tricks and tekniques. i want the engine bay and engine to look "show worthy".

Thanx.

Be careful with any pressure washing...etc. They sell solutions to clean engines with at Autozone. Not sure what's in them.

Make sure the engine is COLD when you start to wash... if you are going to pressure wash, cover up the electronic parts with bags first... the ECU, fuses, etc... put on some simple green, let it sit for a bit and hose it off...

I don't just need product names.....I also need your tips. For instance, someone told me to mist on Tire Wet after it is clean to make it shine.

That has the possibility to make everything sticky...

Agreed, but he also said the dirt and sh!t washes off easier after tire wet is applied.

The biggest "tip and trick" is to cover/seal all things electrical.

Other than that, go to town. I've had pretty good success with Foamy Engine Brite.

I did some professional detailing for about 4 years during HS and college....

i would only recomend this if you know what your doing...otherwise just buy the store stuff and scrub off for hours....anyways make sure the engine has cooled for at least 2 hours so you dont crack the block...use either one 1. some type of industrial grease remover or 2. which you will probably only have if you are a serious detailer, wheel cleaner (the real type, not store alkaline soultion, the acid) and spray througly on all METAL surfaces, be careful of rubber hoses ect, and then after coated let dry for about 5 minutes...then turn on the car and all the dried grease will fall right off in clumps do to vibrations....then follow up with chrome polish, and then an antitsick teflon agent to prevent buildup and keep looking awesome longer......

if you have any more questions dont hesitate to ask or PM me...

okay after reading some more stuff in this thread....yes obviously cover up fuses ect, and computer parts like some BMW's....

i would not spray on tire shine becuase its just a grease with active abrasives in it...if you use the right product in the first place the other will be a waste....
