YACT: Desperately need winter tires!!! Almost destroyed my car on Sunday...

Ok so maybe purchasing summer tires earlier this year wasn't the brightest idea I've ever had!!🙁 Was delivering a pizza here last night and lost complete control, hit a curb and took out my driver side mirror! Was about 6 inches from a very large tree that I would have hit had I not hit the curb first!:Q Not to mention it took me about 15 minutes to deliver a pizza previous to this one because I could not get up a rather small hill!

I really would like to get this but that has to wait until next year.😀

So what I need to know is, will OE 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 rims fit on my 2002 Ford Focus ZX3?? Please tell me they will!! I can get the rims for free and tires for them are about $80 cheaper each then for my current rims. They both have 4 lugs but im not sure they are the same size pattern?? Also, other then looking terrible will I be able to run 14" rims on my focus, I don?t think it is a problem??

Ok cool wasnt sure that any focus came with 14" rims...

Anyone know where I can find out if the bolt pattern is the same on the two cars??

the problem isn't the car or the tires. it's the driver.

i bet if you had had either the car you linked OR the tires you wanted, you STILL would have lost it on that corner.

oh i forgot. you know of course that 4 WD does NOT give you better traction around corners. or stopping. the only place that 4wd really has a significant advantage over FWD is when you get stuck off the road. on paved roads, FWD is JUST as good as if not better than 4wd.

you went from tech support to pizza delivery? does it outweigh unemployent? (~$400/week)

anyway, have u looked at walmart for snow tires? as for rims, try ebay?

What about in snow?

snow too as long as it isn't too deep, but if it's that deep most 4wd's will get stuck too.

shoot, i drove a mustang 5.0 thru 3 cold winters in Michigan, 40" of snow and i had no problems.

it's more driver than car.

4wds have the greatest advantage where clearance can be an issue but on paved roads 4wd's have very little advantage.

yeah ok, what makes you think it's me that's the problem?? I'm not some 16 y/o idiot that doesn't know how to drive. I was going all of 5mph down that hill and still lost control! There was absolutely nothing I could do and it is all because of those tires! Had I had snow tires or even all season tires I WOULD NOT have lost it on that corner...

Oh and I've owned 2 vehicles with AWD and they were so much better then the 5 or 6 FWD cars I've owned when it came to snow travel...

I still work tech support, delivering pie is my second job... in about 2 years it will be my only job and I will only work 2 or 3 days a week for 8 months of the year!!😀 I prefer pizza delivery over my stable 9 to 5! Oh I would never collect unemployment, or at least I would do everything in my power before I did collect it.

Hey....I see you're in MI. I'm in Bloomfield Hills, but am in East Lansing often. I just so happen to have 3 stock 92 Mustang LX 14" wheels that are taking up space in my garage. I'm 99% sure they're 4x108 bolt pattern. The tires on there are pretty well thrashed, but 14" tires are cheap. You can have the wheels for free if you want, just pick em up. Or if you have anything interesting you'd want to trade, that'd work too 😀. LMK if you want em.

Well my goal in life has always been to retire at age 30 or at least do something I enjoy for a living and not have to do much of it😀 No what I'm doing is not illegal... In 8 months at the pizza place I work for I can take home roughly 20k, more if I want to work more then 3 days or 25 hours a week... When your rent is 400 a month and you have no other debt 20k a year is a pretty good living! I like pizza delivery because its ridiculously easy and I love all the people I work with and I meet sooooo many people and I make a ton of cash!! But the main reason I will be working so little in two years is that I want to be going to school full time. I have a lot to accomplish before that can happen so I am working my a$$ off for now.

wait...20k in 8months = 30k/year. at 25hrs/week, that's $23/hr or $47k/year at 40hrs/week.

how the hell do u make an equivalent of $47k/year by delivering pizzas??? and it's probably more since it mostly cash, right?

and is that normal for a pizza delivery guy?

OMG yes yes!!! YHPM!!

I'm pretty sure you arent going to want to put those wheels originally off of a RWD car on the drive/steering axles of your FWD car.

They are going to be the wrong offset, and could result in ohhhhhh lets say "unusual" handling characterisitics, and added stress to all of your front end components. Also a distinct possibility of clearance issues when turning the wheel.

No I'd say it?s not normal... I work at a store that does exceptionally well and I am very good at what I do... we have very few drivers on staff and a VERY small delivery area?

And those numbers you posted are damn near spot on! For the month of November I averaged $25 an hour? only working 2 days or <20 hours a week!

Oh and one of my best nights I managed to deliver a fifth of the stores total sales for the entire day over $1500 bucks worth of food!

I am assuming by the map you linked to that you're in the Ann Arbor area. I would try Foxx Auto parts in Ypsilanti for the rims. You should be able to find a couple of used ones there. If you're looking for the best prices on tires, go the Wal-mart route for those.

I used to drive a shadow with nearly bald tires in the winter.. at least till I rammed the curb in a parking lot while messing around (in retrospect, if my handbrake had worked I probably wouldn't have hit the curb ).
If you don't have good winter tires you have to take it realllly easy. Hell, with my new protege I'm always spinning my 4-seasons on the snow. Even if I take off in second it's hard not to spin.

You're right about stopping, but wrong about cornering. 4WD does give better traction around corners. You can use the gas to go around the corner. FWD has got to be the worst for taking off since only one wheel has traction.

It blows my mind when people say they want to retire at age 30 (even more so when they want to do so off their pizza delivery earnings). When did people become so lazy? If I didn't have a job, I'd be bored out of my mind.
