YACT: Dad busted his Radio, what to do?

95 Pontiac Bonneville radio is busted. My dad calls me up and says he got a new CD Player for his car. He took out the old radio, he also bought a piun adapter so he doesn't cut the original wires. He tied all the color coded copper wires and he puts it and no-go. Turn ont he car and the radio doesn't light up.

He decides to put the original tape player in, does not work either. He's worried he messed up the power to the radio now. I went over today and saw what he did. And I asked him if the Battery was Plugged in the Whole time. He said "Yeah Why?" I just looked at him liek this :| Now I don't know what to do myself. Did he mess with the electrical system for the radio?

Btw.. car starts, ac works, lights work, power everything works, but the radio is dead 😕 I'll probably end up bringing to the gm service center after school tomorrow, what can I expect to pay?

Dad buys new CD for 95 bonneville
Doesnt remove negative cable from battery
New radio doesn't turn on, old radio does not either anymore
Car works normal, except the radio.
What to do? 🙁

Check fuses in both the radio and the car's fusebox(es).

(Btw, as an ex-mechanic of 10+ years, I've installed more radios than I can count... I don't recall ever disconnecting the battery.)

Technically you're supposed to disconnect the negative lead according to every car stereo manual I've ever read, but what do I know

Damn, if you weren't Elite you'd almost be a Lifer!

Check the fuse on the cd player. How did he put the wires together? Solder, butt crimps....?

Fuse should be brand new, if there was a problem with the new cd player the old one should have worked fine and then I can think of what the problem was.

He twisted the wires together and used black electrical tape to cover them. 3 wires are unused (2 orange for the subwoofer most likely and 1 blue w/ sbalc stripe which has nothing to hook up with)

AHhh the CAR'S fuses too. Damn should have thought of that. So If both are out, I gotta get a new fuse for each (car and radio?) Plus the Delco radio does not seem to have a slot where I can check the fuse 😕
