YACT: Clutch pedal has to be pulled "off the floor"

So I'm using the company pool car (Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0) over the Xmas period as my car's in the garage AGAIN :|, and it's developed this curious problem, starting issues notwithstanding.

It's done it three times now, when I've gone to start it up, and the clutch pedal has been on the floor, and the only way to "release" it is to get out and tug at it with my hand until it springs back up. Once that's done, it works fine, until it gets cold and does it again.

I'm wondering if these cars have hydraulic clutches, and something's going wrong, possibly to do with the cold or something?

It's a manual transmission, BTW.

Cheers! 🙂

Yup.
It's done 43,000 miles in two years, and has had the arse thrashed off it the entire time. In a weird way, I feel sorry for it, as I know that the Production guys use it to run base units up to the nearest town when a courier would be wasteful. With 150bhp, it goes pretty well and thus gets ragged all the time.

You Brits and your excitement over 150bhp 😛

It's good for 60mph in second, about 125mph tops, and will hit 60 in around 9 seconds. Believe me, it's quicker than it sounds, and it's incredibly violent in the first two gears.
Nice car, all told, just a shame it's been beaten over the years.

Any thoughts on the problem?

Check the clutch fluid resevoir. If the Skoda has one, the fluid level is probably low.

Ah, thanks 🙂
I'll go have a look later; unfortunately I'm on-call today so I have to sit by the phone from 10am-3:30pm :| and can't leave the house or even go downstairs to the garage until then. Sigh.

I'll have a look, cheers!

This is a "take it to a mechanic" type problem. It could also be covered by the warranty.

Taking it into the garage is not really a problem as the company will pay for it 😉
However, the warranty ran out a year ago, I think. I'm not sure if the leasing company will pay for this as it could be said that it's general wear & tear. Still, I'll have a look in an hour or so, just hope that I don't get called out now as that would suck donkey balls.
