It's ok, everyone does. They think because it has gullwings it's packing 300HP

(that's not aimed at you or anyone here, but I see it happen a lot when talking about those cars)

In all fairness, I estimated it as 170 bhp, not 300. The DeLoreans are definitely more show than go, in any case.

like I said, it wasn't aimed at anyone here Many people I've talked to in person have tried telling me they came stock with V8s. When I tell them they come with weak V6's that have less HP than your average econocar, some believe me and others don't

You've listed two (definitely noteworthy) exceptions, but I am referring to home made rice jobs. Like when they put colored lenses on the headlights and spray normally two tone trim. When a car is diesigned from the ground up to be one color, it can work. Home done jobs are 99.99% of the time fugly. You can find an exception or two though.

Oh, an note I did not say that they were never cool, just that they aren't by default.

Be careful with painted Deloreans, usually means they are covering up body work.
You'd think that a car built from stainless steel could incorporate the same philosophy to the exhaust system! Every Delorean I've seen has a completely rusted out exhaust.

Just because it's slow stock doesen't mean it has to be slow once you get your hands on one. I don't think there is any shortage of space in the engine bay.
