That does look pretty nice. I always kindof liked the car but never liked the brushed aluminum job. Wonder how the engine really performs.

A minor point: DeLoreans are actually stainless steel, not aluminum.

wow... that would look really mean all blacked out. Blacked out headlamps and tails with black wheels would look like something out of a nightmare.

Actually DeLoreans were all made of stainless steel - have you ever seen ANY DeLorean with rust on it? Anyway, as a result, they were quite heavy, and woefully underpowered, esp. considering the weight. I always thought they were kind of cool anyways though. They do look good in other colors, that black one looks nice.

Is stainless heavier than other steel? I didn't know that. DeLoreans definitely are underpowered - as I recall (no energy to Google!) they have a Renault/Chrysler V-6 with something like 170 bhp.

The stock engine sucked BALLS. That's one of the major reasons they were so unpopular. However, other engines fit just fine as replacements. It may not be cost-effective, but it's a seriously kickass looking car with a respectable power plant, if you find the right one.

289 should be a perfect fit (Barring mounting points etc.)

Here's a dyno sheet showing the stock motor vs. some modded ones. The stock motor w/auto is putting out less than 80HP at the rear wheels . The motor was a joint venture between Renault, Peugeot, and Volvo.

And yea, I goofed on the steel thing...funny, I always thought stainless weighed more than regular steel due to the chromium content.

aluminum doesnt rust either...i figured they would go with that just because of the weight savings ...go figure

There's a black DeLorean for sale around here too...been for sale for months and months, too. "Black, only a few left. Rare collector's item". He fails to mention that none of them were painted from the factory......he's down to $17,300 this week, I think he started at around $25k

Cars that are all one color look really bad. Like you're so poor you couldn't afford the trim, or some hick did a crappy spray job on it.

One color car != Cool.

A place in Ft. Lauderdale used to repair(and repair and repair) Deloreans right next door to a shop I used to work at. I've seen yellow, red and black ones as well as the standard brushed stainless. The red ones looked kinda cool, but man, you should have heard the death rattles out of these pieces of work. The mechanics I talked to said they had never seen such pieces of crap in thier lives. Renault engines, the horror, the horror.
