Turn the key on and off about five times.
Just to the position before it actually starts, of course... so Off-On-Off-On-Off-On, that should do it. Works on my 04 Chrysler.

my mechanic told me that in class he had learned that if you turn the engine on and off 200 times the engine resets itself and the light turns off....
200 times???

That'll spit out a code on the odometer.

Hey, between three posts we got the whole thought process out! :p

EDIT: BTW, the most common reason is the gas cap wasn't tightened.

If you want to double-check to make sure that wasn't it, disconnect the negative terminal on your battery for a minute then reconnect it. That will clear the light, and if it was just the gas cap, it shouldn't come back on.

Argh, I heard this is a common problem with Dodge trucks. I guess I'll have to reset the light and then maybe looking into buying a new cap.

You know, reseting the light doesn't actually fix the problem. :)

Yeah, I have to buy another one myself, since my GF lost ours. The aftermarket one I bought doesn't fit well enough to keep the light off :|

If it is brand new just take it into the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.
