YACT: Causes of a cylinder misfire?

I have a 1996 Chevrolet K1500 with the 4.3l V6 Vortec.

Last week I started my truck up and it was running really rough and the check engine light began blinking, I immediately shut it and took another vehicle. When I got home, I started it back up and it was still running rough, but I figure it probably had some water in the gas tank as it's been raining alot and I was almost on empty. SO I filled it up and the light when off.

FF to this week. I started it up yesterday and it was rough again, again with the Check engine light. I drove it around a little and the light didn't go off. So I took it in and my mechanic said I had a cylinder misfire. He recommended a tuneup since I just had the engine replaced in Jan of this year (I had a tune up in Dec on the old engine). So I get it back with a $430 bill, but it's running great.

FF to this morning. It's rough again, matter of fact, no change from yesterday morning. So I get pissed and goto my mechanic. He says, he'd check the code at lunch and says to use some fuel injector cleaner (even though yestreday he said they were fine) if it reads the same code "300: Cylinder misfire"... so I bought some fuel injector cleaner and ran it for a few miles and the check engine light stayed on. So I went out and bought a code reader myself to see what the code was and it says "303: 3 misfires".... but that code was from this morning when it was running rough. It's smooth now. I reset the code and am hoping the fuel injector cleaner will work.

What other things could cause a cylinder misfire on a new engine?

THanks

btw: Should I pull one of the battery terminals and let the computer reinitialize for the new plugs and distro cap?

What did he replace in the tune up? My guess is that since you said it recently rained that moisture is somehow getting somewhere its not supposed to, like spark plug wires, etc.

All replaced yesterday... still having problems.

As for gas, I've gotten 2 tanks worth from two different stations.

I've seen dist. rotors cause this concern on your vehicle type but since you had that replaced it might be dirty injectors, but I doubt that.

So... you paid $430 and the truck is still messed up? I'd be a little more than pissed about that.

I am.... :)

Here is the latest. I unplugged the battery for a few minutes and cleared the computer. Then I hooked it back up and took a drive around town. It's running very smooth now, so I'm hoping that cleared it all up. The test will come in the morning when the problems always seem to start.

Mornings is like when the car is over night...is it parked outside at night? If it is, then its most likely a moisture problem. Hrmm...If it continues...take it back to the mechanic. Also check technical service buletins and see if there were any recalls on your vehicle. NHTSA should have some info, and alldata.com should too.
