My 97 Nissan Altima had a carrier bearing on the passenger side axle half shaft; a few inches where it exited the transaxle. I replaced the driver's side half shaft with no problem, but no carrier bearing involved. You do have to separate the lower ball joint. The carrier bearins is held in by 3 bolts I think; get the manual. The hardest part of the job will be separating the ball joint. The rest is cake if you can handle a wrench.
