Gross or net?

Net is probably the recent 405 hp Z06 models.

Gross is probably any L79 engine which was rated at 435 HP if you're going by ratings. The 67-69 L88's had the most, though they were only rated at 430 fir insurance reasons.

Then there's the ultra-rare ZL-1 engined 'Vettes (two were made) that could put out 600 hp or so with just a carb change and new exhaust.

It was the 67 first L88 it came with a Warning: to use only 95 or higher octane fuel and the actual Hp was somewhere around 550.:)

Actually, the plaque on the center console warned to use 103 Octane according to the photograph I have in a Randy Leffingwell book.

The ZL-1 was identical to the L-88 except that the ZL-1 was supposed only to be released to drag racers and was all-aluminum, so it weighed significantly less than the L-88. :)

Always loved the Macco Shark 'Vettes. Buddy of mine has a yellow '68 convertible with the 4-speed and the 435 HP 427. The thing scoots. He bought it in '69 from a guy who owned it for a year and then wanted to get rid of it.

Shoot. Well, I knew the V8 didn't have a manual option so it was worth a shot. Let's try 1993.

Correct! I hope you didn't google that ;)

Your turn
Random guessing.

*thinks*

What do the four interlocking rings of Audi's emblem symbolise?

ZV

They symbolize the union of 4 different companys that joined together to form the Auto Union.

It's absolutely gorgeous. He did a full-on restoration in the 1980's and the car is 100% correct. The paint color doesn't match the VIN (it used to be green) but it's the factory yellow paint from '68. He has won all sorts of awards for the car, and for his '52 Harley Dyna-Glide (unrestored). The only mark he's had against the dynaglide was a single wing-nut on the battery was from the wrong year, otherwise it got a perfect score.

The guy runs a machine shop and just loves tinkering with things. Asked him once how fast the 'Vette would go... "I had it up to 140 once and it was still pulling hard, but I was running out of road and getting a little nervous so I slowed down. Haven't had it over 80 since I restored it. Put too much work into it."

Gee, Roger got a question about German cars. Surprise surprise. ;) :p

ZV

EDIT: Yeah, post it for fun Roger.

What type of clutch was used on all the early Fords ? (Model A) Specifically, what was it manufactured from ?

Just for sh!ts and grins, I googled the Audi answer just now, I was wrong, it's Wanderer, not Wander ;)

I'm gonna ask another Saturn question, this one a little more difficult. And only because I owned one (*hint hint* 1998 Saturn SC2)

Saturn had a limited run of "Red Hot" edition Sport Coupe 2 (SC2) vehicles. These vehicles had every SC2 option, included a black top (not painted to match body) ... had factory white face gauges, black saturn emblems, and a couple other things.

The QUESTION: The "Red Hot" edition came in two colors only. Name them.

It was close enough for me to give it to you.

I'd always thought that the odd thing about the early Fords was the manually-shifted planetary gearbox. Never knew there was anything special about the clutch. Just figured it was a prett standard dry-plate setup with cable actuation.

I'll tell you know because I have to go, they where cone clutches made from paper and leather, picture two ice cream cones over each other, now force them togther, same thing except one cone was leatrher, the other compressed paper.

Ahh, right, the old cone-clutches. More friction area for a given diameter because the material didn't have enough friction to transmit much torque at all.
