My friend called me and told me his car got jacked last night. Someone saw it happen. A tow truck came in and grabbed his car, a 2000 Acura Integra GS-R. He verified with his condo complex and they didn't have it towed. The cops he talked to said it is agetting more comon for cars to get stolen like this, and with the type of car he has, it was probably stripped before he even woke up.

His insurance is cutting him a check friday for $16K. luckily the car was paid off so he gets all the cash to put on a new car.

Time to invest in a night scope for my gun.

Dateline just did an undercover investigation on this type of scam. After the perps were nailed, one of the accomplices got a year probabation, one ran after posting bail because he already had 2 strikes, one was let go with no charges filed, and the owner of the tow truck place was pending trial on some basically misdemeanor charges. They had footage of a car being stripped by the guys and of them towing away cars that they scoped out. The problem was noone could identify the car being towed and they weren't sure if it was being stolen or part of an insurance scam.
 
I think those cars are ugly.

Sucks that it was stolen but maybe he can get something better with the insurance payment.
 
He should keep the car in gear with the parking brake securly enguaged.

They would then need a flatbed truck to run that scam.

That's what he does, doesn't take much to put the car on a dolley and go, or to jimmy the door and pop it out of gear.

Thou this is the second time his Clifford alarm has failed. Last time the glass mic didn't go off, when they broke in and took his radio and radar.

 
I own a '94 Integra with over 125,000 miles on it, with lots of scratches and bumps on it, and has a pretty rough transmission..wish someone would steal it already 🙂

Your rates aren't affected if it's stolen right?
 
We had a '97 Integra GSR stolen from our driveway, Only had the car for 6 months. Was walking out the front door getting ready for class, noticed the Integra was gone.. My parents were still home sleeping, we were like WTF!?! Never did find the car again, We did get a '98 Prelude instead though... Probably would have found the car had we got lo-jack installed
 
I had my '99 GS-R stolen a couple of years back. When it was recovered, it was missing its engine, tranny, wheels, seats, dashboard, and airbag. Fortunately the thieves were not interested in my OK Computer CD and my Sidi Dominator 2 MTB shoes!
 
Man, that sucks.

If I ever have a car worth stealing, you better be damn well sure I'm going to have a camera pointed in it's direction at all times.

That's assuming I don't have a garage and have to park it in plain sight.
 
samething happened to an ex roommate of mine, cept they put his $40K show car on a flatbed and took it, found the car a week later torched in the middle of a field.
 
How do these thieves get the towtruck people to tow a car? Don't you have to somehow prove its yours?

I'm sure he can go after the company for something for that.
 
nice check back from the insurance company. yeah, those GSR's are a car that gets stolen a lot. ricers have to get their engines for swaps from somewhere, i guess.
