so I did get the 97 240sx for those of you who remembered. So far it has been great. I just got a tune-up and have the transmission fluid changed. However, sometimes the car shifts rough when it goes from 1st to 2nd, meaning it jerks forward a little bit before going into 2nd gear. After that, it shifts normally.

Is this normal? BTW, it is an auto.

P.S. pics will come soon

Your carberator (sp?) fuel-injection pipe sounds like its clogged. Or it could be a problem with a worn restrictor plate coming in contact with the transmission.

Go to pep boys and pick up a bottle of Lucas Automatic Transmission fixer, that should smooth it out ;)

Sounds like you may have some seal leakage inside the transmission for the forward clutch bands. You could try some transmission conditioner or have the forward clutch band tightened, if you haven?t already. It's not really worth rebuilding the transmission at this stage, but it could be useful to have it checked out.

It could be a simple as a sticky shift solenoid or even low fluid.

When the fluid is changed the 1 - 2 - OD and Reverse bands are supposed to be torqued to a value, then backed off so many turns, done usually every 35k miles. When torqued, sometimes if the torque values are not 100% exact, you will get hard shifts. First thing to do is MAKE SURE YOUR TRANNY FLUID LEVEL IS GOOD! Low ATF will make the 1-2 shift REALLY hard. If it is good, then just let it wear in.

yeah. just came back from the shop. The fluid level is good. The car currently has 58000 miles.

guapo337:

It is hard enough to find an auto 240sx in good condition, it is almost impossible to find a fairly new/not abused MANUAL 240sx.

Why is it so hard to find 240's in good condition?

do you mean when you press the clutch down and it seems like you jerk forward because you aren't pinned to your seat while you're not in gear?

Because current owners don't like to sell them and there weren't that many of them made.

Because not many were sold to begin with, and people who have them in good condition like them and aren't selling. If it's in good condition with low miles, and it happens to be for sale, it commands a premium price. It's pratcically the same situation with Volvo cars of the same designation (except a lot of them were made, but their last year was 1991).
