YACT: Car battery. Sears Diehard "Weatherhandler" or "Gold" extra $20 worth it??

Getting time to replace the battery in my minivan (reading low on below frezing tests). I am going to Sears for a Diehard (mostly due to being able to get $30 off (I have a $20 off of $50 coupon and they are giving out $10 gift cards tomorrow morning to the 1st 100 customers 😉 )

OK, that established, I have two choices:

Diehard "Weatherhandler" for $59.99 (before discounts)
Diehard "Gold" for $79.99 (before discounts)

Is the Gold REALLY worth the extra $20 (free replacement period is double - 3 years versus 1.5). Google searching yields a TON of FUD and subjective opinions. What say you ATOTers???

Yeah, I have been using Die Hard Golds in the stang for years..they last FOREVER. I think I've had the one in there for 5 or 6 years now..

Should also leangthen the pro rated warrenty as well.

Should have a few more cold cranking amps, so look at it this way. Is $20 worth it to you to delay the next no start to an even further date?

 Yup yup, well worth the extra money for a Gold.

How many hours of work is $20 to you (after taxes, insurace, etc)?

Now is the difference in battery worth that much of your life?

Well, the discounts etc sound pretty good, but I have never had any luck with any brand of battery *except* Interstate. The only other battery I'd consider would be an Optima. (gel-cell)

Agreed. As much as I love the DieHard's, I think I'm going with an Optima when this one goes.

🙂

Get the gold. The extra warranty is worth it. I've taken a gold back twice - and had them replaced for free.

FWIW.

I'm assuming the "(North)" and "(South)" monikers are what part fo the country the battery is used in? Or is it something else?

Here's the definition.

Ahhh...thanks. So I'm assuming the Die Hard's I'm getting up here in NH are northern. Must be why mine has some insane CCA...something like 1100-1200. I did put in a battery meant for a F-350 SD though....good ole Ford...they used standard sized battery trays...fit like a glove.

🙂

Get the extra warranty. Should your alternator go out and kill your battery, you can get the battery replaced for free.

You wouldn't need to replace the battery.

you want the diehard Gold, the Golds are made by Johnson Controls(the same people that make the Optima AGMs along with other high end stuff), the weather handler is made by whoever will do it cheepest. weatherhandler batteries are crap batteries cashing in on the reputation built by the gold series.
