ok, so i can't unlock the car. You would think it's an easily solvable problem, unlock it using the key? well, i've found out that it's not as easy as it seems. what makes it worse is that no dealerships are open of sunday. OT has been pretty successful historically at diagnosing car issues. Maybe zimmerman + crew can provide some insights.

i have a 2003 lincoln navigator.

8am i parked it and locked it using fob.
noon i return to the car but unable to unlock it using the fob.

what i've tried so far:
tried unlocking the driver door using the same key i use to start the car. no cigar.

The fob is working because the little LED on it lights up when i press the various buttons. I am assuming that the battery in the car is dead, but I am not exactly what the source of the problem could be. However, the immediate problem is not being able to get into the car to pop open the hood.

I moved recently and I have no idea where the other keys are.

The car has pretty heavy electronic modifications including a fairly sophisticated car security system.

cliffs: car not unlocking using either fob or key used for the ignition. how do i get in so i can pop open the hood?

EDIT: will the automatic lock/unlock system in ths vehicle get messed up if worked over by AAA, police dept, slim jim, etc. Pics added on pg2.

Call your local Police PCT?
 
Can you snake a jumper cable up under the car to attach to the positive side of the electric system? The negative side is easy.

id get out a rag, a couple of flathead screwdrivers, a coathanger and some snips....but ive never tried to get into a navigator and dunno how doable it would be.

its a bitch on my mercury, ive had to do it once, the lock buttons are smooth and curved out...i had to sharpen the coathanger to get it to grip in so i could press the button :/

call a cab and go pick up a slim jim? *shrug*

dont you have a KEY to put into the car door to unlock it, wtf, call cars do I thought.
 
That's really strange that your ignition key doesn't unlock your doors. I would call AAA if you're a member... they do this kind of stuff all the time.

 
wait, what? what's RAC coverage? police PCT = police precinct = police department? I figured if any attempts by services such as AAA (i dont have membership unfortunately) or by the local police dept is b/c they would probably use a slim jim which could mess up the auto lock/unlock system.

So i take it from all your responses that this is a myth?

This is what i've been tryin to figure out. isnt the positive node usually located somewhere on the upper surface of the engine compartment? i dunno how i would be able to snake somethin past a massive 8 cylinder engine block and all the various accessories. In addition to pretty surgical finess I think I would need some long ass arms. Maybe I could get that chinese giant to come around and help like how he pulled out the plastic from those dolphins.



 
you have a ford. Easy way to tell if the battery is dead is to tap the keypad and see if your dome light turns on. If it does, you got juice. You don't know the code for the keypad either?

thnx for the tip. will the key pad work even if the battery is dead? it doesnt really matter tho because i dont have the code anyway...just the one key and fob that i didnt pack into the boxes.

...you would think. i was curious about this too. luckily my dad's car was available so i locked it and tried unlocking it using the key i use to start up his car. it didnt work. i was shocked and amazed. Well, atleast I learnt something new today.

What im saying though is that if you hit any key on the keypad, your dome light should turn on. If it turns on your batter is not dead....get my drift?
 
That vehicle only has one key. It should unlock the door. Try turning it over...it could be worn on the side you tried. (the lock only uses one side of the teeth on the key).

I'd work that lock over pretty hard again. Wiggle the hell out of the key.

If that fails, call a wrecker service or AAA if you have it. One of them will have a lock-out kit and can get in the car.

Your other option is to try and get at the hood release cable. If your battery is dead, that's why your remote won't work.

You obviously have an aftermarket system, as factory remotes don't have lights on them.

No, the keypad won't work if the battery is dead.

yes, it is an aftermarket system. I worked the ignition key in the door lock cylinder fairly thoroughly and flipped it over and what not. Are you sure the ignition key will unlock the door on an 03 lincoln navigator??? I've been after the hood release too. The only way i can think of getting to it is by popping the hood from the inside of the vehicle.
