I know that most cars require that. But remember that the shop time for most cars isn't 16 hours of labor to do that either.Originally posted by: halik
And Zen, to replace the cluch on most cars you'll need to remove the exhaust, loosen up the engine mounts and get other stuff in the way (rear driveshaft and front half axles in case of my audi)... and you're two steps away from pulling the tranny out of the car. That's not really Porsche thing, many cars need that (especially anythign awd)
They're good cars, I love them. I've had three after all. But they take maintenance and attention to little things, and if you have a mechanic do it, you're looking at a rarer skill. You will need a Porsche mechanic (NOT dealer) who works on the water-cooled cars, there are more than a few "Porsche" shops that won't work on the 944.
The 944 is a great car, very solid when maintained, but it's very expensive and very time-consuming to bring one back from the edge.
If you've got the time and the drive to do things right, I say go for it. Just remember that they can be intensely frustrating. They're also 17-24 years old, and old stuff is old stuff. Parts are going to be wearing out.
