YACT: Best USED car for under 13k

Alright - so what's your opinion. I've got a 94' Civic right now but would like to get a bigger car. Manual or automatic both eligible.. I live in Minnesota so no RWD cars. Car is mostly used for business and other traveling.

My vote right now goes to a 98+ Accord V6

as a commuter you might as well just get the I4 accord... plus a big aftermarket so it's easy to make faster, if thats your thing. plus there are more of them out there so you're more likely to find one. less expensive to begin with, better mileage, lower TCO. plus the I4 is pretty quick to begin with if you don't have heavy wheels on it.

BIGGER THAN CIVIC

i swear no one can read on this board anymore.

Celica isn't 4 doors.

For the following suggestions, most models will be around 98-02, pick the year that will fit into your budget.

If you want sporty, try an A4
If you want roomy, go for a 300M
If you want a bit of both, go for a Maxima
If you want something roomy and powerful, go for a Grand Prix GTP

I was thinking Maxima myself. Any nissan fanboys out there to convince me?

2.5RS' are bigger than a Civic. Pretty roomy for my 6'2" frame, much better than my old cramped Integra. And they come in 4-doors. They're just not much bigger than a Civic is all. 😉😛

I would go with the late '90s Accord as well. In fact, it was I first thought of before I clicked the thread but after I read the title. 🙂

Have the new I4 accords gotten a lot more powerful? Cause the box models were horribly slow (ford tempo slow). Anyway if it's a commuter car it's all up to what you're looking for in that kinda car. What do you want? Are you partial to imports (seems so), or is any brand considerable for you? If you want to avoid potential for serious issues stay 99-2000 and newer, although a 98 honda shouldn't cause too many probs.

Since you're gonna use it for business I'd recommend something reasonably comfortable. I don't know about the new accords so I can't comment there. Trust me though almost anything will be a big step up from your Civic for comfort if you're spending lots of time behind the wheel. The Impreza 2.5RS is nice but I don't think it'd be all that comfy. AGain depends what you're looking for. If its a 4, 6 or 8 cyl does it matter? How come you can't have RWD?

when you say bigger than Civic does it have to be 4 door? Would you consider van, truck, wagon, etc? Or only sedan.

2001 Maxima SE is a great car, or 2002....

4g or 5g maxima. the car really speaks for itself, so im not gonna try and convince you 😉 but it is sportier than most sedans. looks the part too. plus it has good reliability, doesnt break down like stupid audis.

ps if you buy one, you could join the ranks of the coolest atots. 😛

Another Nissan choice would be Infiniti G20. The Lexus IS300 is just a tad out of reach.

If you want something that breaks down... try VW/Audi. An Impreza might make a good all-weather commuter.

BTW, just buy snow tires anywho... you live in friggin MN... you need them.

My parents just got 2 new (well used) cars, a 2000 grand prix with 32k miles on it, V6, 4-door and a 2002 Grand Am w/ 36k miles, 4 banger and also a 4 door. got both for $8k apiece iirc. we've only had them for about 3-4 months but they've been great so far.

my car is essentially the same as a G20, and my car has the smallest back seat ever made. even smaller than a jetta's.

You might be able to swing a good deal on a 03 Ford Focus for less than 13k. Not a bad little comuter. Drive one before you say no😉

Negative. If you want something that breaks down, get a Ford.

Uhm, if the "box" model you're referring to is the one in my sig then they run mid 16's with a stick. I doubt a temp could keep up.

I don't understand your reasoning to avoiding potential issues, however. The only one I can think of, as far as Hondas, are the weak auto trannys on V6 Accords.
