What are the things you should do to a car before taking a medium-long trip?

Check oil, fluids, air in tires, etc... ?

air in tires for sure
i usually check ALL fluids just in case (brake fluid, coolant, etc)
but more importantly washer fluid, and motor oil.

Check all the lights, turn, stop, and headlights, wiper blades, engine belt(s), spare tire air pressure and jacking equipment.

If you are worried about breaking down on your trip, bring some basic tools and work gloves.

Also, bring a quart of oil with you, jumper cables, and a roll of paper towels.

Quixfire mentioned a very important one: the spare tire. Too often I have checked my friends' spare tires and they were completely flat (15 psi). Make sure all your tires are in good shape and have tread on them.

Clean your windows before you go. Make sure you carry your insurance papers with you too (I know this is redundant, but some people don't carry the papers with them all the time).

Check the condition of your radiator and heater hoses. If they're really hard or starting to show small cracks you'll want to replace them. Its not good to get stuck in rural South Dakota with a busted radiator hose.

Yeah make sure you have proof of insurance. Where I live we are not required to present any when pulled over so I never kept it in the car. When I was in another state and got pulled over the cops made a real stink about it.
