hmmm, for the money PT Cruiser might be the thing. decent performance, decent mileage, very practical, slightly larger than a 5 door hatch but smaller than a wagon.

hmm

Yeah, but do you want to be hauling around ladders in an Audi? You're gonna get pissed the first time to scratch up your leather seats. I know that I was!

I would go with the passat. I have a passat (non wagon) and love it.
Also what Bob said, you don't want to beat up/scratch the Audi. That's just not crickets ;)

It's older, but I've hauled both a washer and a dryer at the same time in the back of my Volvo wagon. I doubt they would have made them smaller since 1990.

depends on who your clients are. i have an image to maintain. ;)

all my clients are lawyers and doctors. i have to give them the confidence that i have some money before they entrust me. i get paid half up front and my projects for them are 20k to 30k.

so, no a used caravan/voyager will not work.

my intrigue was ok, but not practical and horrible on gas.

like everyone else said, buy a used car

edit: if you must look like you have prestige then the only option out of those 3 is the audi. if you buy a pt cruiser i will smack you.

Well you never stated that did you?

In that case, get the Subaru CraigRT linked to. My gf's brother has similar clientele and they are all impressed with his. (In car crazy LA no less). Its uncommon quite classy.

what i should have done was buy the Saab (rebadged subaru one) that i was looking at last year with the employee pricing. that was a hell of a bargain, but i was saving to buy a house then so it wasn't an option.

Under no circumstances should the PT Cruiser be consideredif you want clients to have confidence in you. Seriously. There are countless people out there who consider it a piece of junk disguised to look different. Of the three choices, I would go with the audi I suppose, if you really place a lot of weight on looking impressive.

If your primary concern is utility but with a side dish of impressive, the passat would be ok.

i dont understand why you are even considering the PT Cruiser. That car looks cheap....not too good if you're concerned about image. I'd go with the Passat over the A4 Avant. The 2.0T gives decent gas mileage. And VW went crazy and started offering the Dynaudio audio system upgrade for only $900 (if you know anything about Dynaudio, you'd know that the package is worth a lot more than $900...considering each speaker goes for $300 used)

A PT crusier is old Neon technology, the Chev HHR is a much newer platform with essentially the same functionality.
But a basic Dodge minivan as somebody else said is something to consider

I drove the HHR as a rental. The visibility of that car is absoulty horrid. The interior uses cheap plastic everywhere. The car's engine's ok, and I had no problem really pushing it, but, I absolutely hated the visibility. All that space, and you'd think they'll design better friggin windows.

if it has to be those three, then just get the Audi avant (judging from the posts i see)

I'd go for the A4 avant, but if you're shopping during the end of the year try to buy a 2006 model instead of 2007 as it comes with free maintenance for 4 years. (That's a $500 option on the 2007 cars.)

I read something about that, the windows , there was a reason I think something that market research said people feel 'safe' with less glass.
GM is known for the plastic inside personally it doesn't bother me any, but its still from an engineering point much better than a PT.
I thought how stupid is GM to roll out a vehicle emulating another vehicle in decline? I mean stylistically why did they think there was gold to be mined from a body type that people have pretty much said ,OK thats enough. . .
