YACT: Anyone ever try these motor flush products?

Does the motor NEED to be flushed? Not usually, IF the oil was changed at proper intervals and a quality oil used...
I'd be concerned about it breaking some "gunk" (yes, that's technical term) loose and clogging an oil passage somewhere...

They work like and are as beneficial as the ever popular colon flush.

I missed the last oil change and its been almost 7000+ miles. I use synthetic oil. I wanted to use the motor flush stuff and drain the oil that is currently in there. Refill with some cheap oil and drive the car around for about a week. And then dump the oil and pour in the new oil.

Be careful, I have heard those cleaning/flush products can actually do damage to engines with higher mileage.

7k is actually not much on synthetic so quit worrying. Cars go that long or longer now on dino oil.

Personally, I wouldn't do it...Most engine oil is detergent oil anyway, so if you're REALLY concerned, do an oil change, drive it for 1000 miles, and do another one. IMO it's not necessary, but it's pretty cheap peace-of-mind...and doesn't have the potential to cause the kinds of problems that a flush can...

If you have 220k DO NOT DO IT. At this stage, the gunk could be the only thing holding your engine together. Seriously. It's not worth the risk unless you're ready to rebuild it immediately if it fails. Over time, your engine undergoes physical and chemical stresses and changes. It can actually get used to being dirty and be unable to function clean. You could lose all your compression and timing, particularly if the car hasn't been well serviced with regular oil changes.

I don't know the most mileage anyone has successfully flushed at, but I've always been told that it's usually too late even at around 120k. But if you're fine with rebuilding the engine (maybe it's already on the fritz), then you have little to lose. If you do it, please post details : )

What are you hoping to achieve?

Flushing out as much of the dirty oil as I can.

My truck had like 120k on it and I used a flush before an oil change. I got a low end knock that never went away.

I think maybe some sludge in there is beneficial :p
