🙂

Good luck finding a clean unmolested model though.

You would be surprised. Even if it might be harder to find a factory original in good shape, there is such a HUGE aftermarket for them, and all the body parts are still available, that there are tons out there that will last for years...

If you go to some of the various Mustang websites and visit their classified's section, you can find all kinds of mint foxbodies, and even some '93 Cobra's.

Good choice, but may be too recent to be considered "classic muscle."

I somewhat agree, but even the ones from the 60's and 70's we refer to as "classic muscle" now, were just another car back in their day...

I think the one exception might be a car like the '93 Cobra...it's newer, but it's a limited production model that was only made that one year...

I still get ~27MPG highway on my modified, 14 year old Mustang GT....

What kind of gearing do you have in that thing? 2.73? If so, it must be a total dog. I never got more than 17 out of mine on the freeway...of course, I had a 3.73 rear gear in it. 😛

Oh god no...came with the 2:73's..but they are in my basement. I went with the 3:55's as a nice blend, and because I had the car more setup for autcross/handling than for drag racing.

The car has been my ONLY car since I bought it in 1993...just got hit in the rear though recently. 🙁

I already got paid by the other guys insurance company though, since it was a State Fire Marshall that hit me. 😀 I technically got rear ended by a statey...(Fire Marshall in NH is considered part of the Dept. Of Safety).

I paid $2,000 cdn for my car:

its a rust free 1979 Chrysler Lebaron coup. A rust free car here more than 20 years old is very rare indeed.

It has a modded 318/auto.

I am slowly getting it ready for street use again. Insurance quote is on next week's agenda.

Why this car? Its a Mopar, comes with smallblock power, has disc brakes and is RWD. Parts are also cheap and easy to get.

rock on, guys!

😎

I had a '94 GT that came with a 2.73. I swapped it out for a 3.73 and loved it!!! Still, gas mileage really sucked. It had a 5 spd transmission, I put in subframe connectors, Eibach springs, adjustable Koni Yellows, headers/exhaust and a few other mods. That is the one car I wish I still owned...🙁

no. It will be a summer only car. It has been in storage for 4 years. Now I am going through the car to make sure it is ready for street use. Its alot of small things and you get really dirty fixing and tweaking them, but its worth it.

Mustangs are dirt cheap and reliable
just picked up a 5.0 1995 GT Convertable with 70k miles on in it mint shape for 5k

Tons of very good 5.0s down here in Texas to buy..
they still very HOT here.

great fast light cars...

I found at least 25 buyable stangs when I was lookign recently..
most were all from 5-8k for very nice stangs...

Only problem for me on most was seems that everyone is still yanking all smog system crap and running illegal heads and offroads.... which means alot more work to get it back where they will pass smog.

so I found a bonestock 95 and will work on it myself... emissions legal power for me..

When I've got the money/space/time I will buy a 1960-67 Lincoln Continental Convertable.

10k will get you a good looking, good running car (not numbers matching), 20-30k will get you one in show condition.

One of the most beautiful cars ever built.

I think I'll probablt wind up with a non-original car, so I won't have to worry about replacing everything with original parts when they break - and then I wouldn't feel bad about shoehorning a new transmission in, maybe a new engine that'd make the same power with less gas consumption (choices were 7.0 or 7.5 liter for the original car, I think the current ford MOD 4.6 HO makes more power than either, too).

But man, I want those lines, in shiny black, on a four door convertible with suicide rear doors. Jeebus, that thing was gorgeous.

1979-1970 AMC AMX ftw. These cars are quickly becoming collectors items but are still not well known as far as muscle cars go. They came with a wide range of motors too. Everything from a 232 inline six to V8's displacing 290, 343, 360, 390 and the massive 401. One of those year AMX's with a 390 and the "Go Pack" kit on it makes for a beautiful, great performing muscle car that will be pretty unique(Ok yeah so I'm an AMC fan, go figure).

PS: Price wise you can get one that might need just a little work, for under 9-10 grand. Pretty cheap as far as classic muscle cars go. I check E-Bay occasionally and see rusted hulks of Mustang Coupes and Dodge Chargers selling for 4-5 grand. Shop around and you can pick up a nice AMX for 8 grand that will blow the doors off a Mustang or Camaro.

and one year to sell it for $9000. i got bored with fixing it along with becoming broke.

AMX's are not cheap and very few were made. 1970 only I believe.

The others are just Javelin SST. The only other AMX was that hideous 1977-80 Hornet AMX. You could even get the awesome 304 2bbl V8, that is until 1980 where all you could get was an inline 6. Yeehaw.

You could just mod a Matador or something.

In the very post of his your quoting he says classic muscle/american classic.

In CA, you will want to find a smog exempt model year, which is, I believe, prior to 1970. That opens a huge door of possibilities, for uninhibited power. 🙂

Your reading the whole thread before you speak skills are lacking...
there were 3-5 of us talking about 5.0 stangs halfway through the thread..

AND! the subject line says he wants a muscle car which is why we all said 5.0 stang.

I read in an issue of Hot Rod that smog checks go back to 1956 or something like that.

To be exempt would require a seriously old car.

Yeah, the four-cylinder 2.3-litre entry-level engine, with just 100hp, is just oozing muscle...

Nope 1975 and older are exempt.
Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.
