In CA, you will want to find a smog exempt model year, which is, I believe, prior to 1970. That opens a huge door of possibilities, for uninhibited power. :)
I read in an issue of Hot Rod that smog checks go back to 1956 or something like that.

To be exempt would require a seriously old car.

Nope 1975 and older are exempt.
Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.
hmmm...

I keep reading all these stories about cars from the mid 60's that must pass smog inspection in CA.

Very strange indeed.

What is Your price range?

Mopars are usually cheaper. ;)

Emissions? LOL!

In NH, we didn't have it here for about 10 years, and they just recently brought it back...sort of. The don't actually take tail pipe readings, or check for smog equipment...they just put 1996 and newer OBD-II equipped vehicles on the machine and if it has a check engine light it will fail. However, pre'96 OBD-I are exempt. I still needed to find a guy who would overlook my lack of converters though...

Also, the garage I used to go to had an old testing machine, and mine blew cleaner exhaust in all but one reading than it would with the factory 4 cat setup...

$70,000
1969 DODGE DART GTS, - M-Code car 440 4-BBL, factory rated at 375 HP and 480 ft. lbs of tire frying torque. These were limited production, 1969 only, factory special order vehicles which were produced in batches that required special assembly at the factory to fit the mighty 440 into the A Body Dart. These cars were renowned for their brutal straight line performance and are legendary in the Mopar world. Most of these cars were immediately modified for racing, getting rid of the unique exhaust manifolds and installing through fender exhaust headers. Our car has the original, unique to this model, exhaust manifolds and never had its fenders wells cut out for headers. The car is in incredible condition and while being repainted, the interior is entirely original and in amazing condition. It has all its original sheet metal. The motor is not numbers matching, but it is the correct date coded 440 that car would have come with. Most of these cars were ordered with very few options, but this one was ordered with all tinted glass and a console mounted tachometer. This particular car was built on 4-27-69, when the last batch of these cars were produced. We have the build sheet and a copy of this cars original window sticker. This car has been in collector hands almost its entire life and is an amazing example of a rare and desirable car. This would be a perfect choice to go racing in FAST (factory appearing stock tires) class of drag racing. Contact us for more information.
