My parents are in the process of looking for a new car mainly for driving around town instead of their SUVs. Right now they are seriously considering the afore mentioned cars. I realize that it is all about preference and that they need to test drive each one but I just wanted to see if any of you had any 1st hand input(Owner, test drive, friend owns one, etc). What did you like, what didn't you like? That kind of thing. :D

Edit: Probably should have made this clear. They are considering the G35 Coupe, not the sedan. Don't ask me why they are considering a 4-door vs a 2-door. I don't understand half the things they do. :confused:

I'm biased towards the G35, since my dad drives a G35 coupe. The only thing I don't like about it, was the sound of the tires (they were loud as hell). But my dad got new wheels and tires (Pirelli P-Zero's) and the ride is much quieter now. I also don't like that the driver's seat doesn't have a power back, but I think the 2004 and up models have full power seats.

I've never driven or ridden in a TL, so I can't comment on that.

Edit: I like the coupe, but I've grown to like the sedan (especially the '05, with the new taillights) a lot.

You meant it the other way around right?

Anyways, I'd choose a TL because G35s are a dime a dozen now.

I'd take the G35 for it's handling any day. Infinitis are way more reliabile than Acura (see JDPower, I think Infiniti got 2nd place).

Props to Acura TL for it's excellent navigation system (we have the MDX which has the same voicenav, which is useless by the way) and its looks.

G35 is excellent if you want a more well rounded car. TL suffers from torque steer and all. RWD (G35) > AWD (TL), but RWD sucks in the snow ;).

Have you given the new BMW 330i a look? Excellent car.

G35...especially since your putting it as the 2-door coupe against the Sedan...not quite an equal comparison, in my book

I own an 04 TL and love it. I especially like the power and sound system. It has a ton of gadgets and the Navi is very easy to use.

The 6 speed manual is perfectly geared to the engine. It also will get to 120 very quickly. They say the top speed is over 150 but I've only had it to 135 on the open road. Despite that it still averages over 30mpg at a constant 85 and 24 in my city commute.

If anything the car is almost too quiet. My co-workers tell me that they can hardly hear it when I drive by in the company garage.

I am also planning to go to the P-Zeros when the Bridgestone?s wear out. The only complaint I have so far is scratching the rims. I'm still not use to the low profile tires that don't protrude past the edge of the wheels. But a little bit of touch up paint fixes most of them pretty easily.

Are you saying that they want the 4 door? That's the sedan, not coupe!!!

I meant 4-door as in the TL vs a 2-door as in the G35 Coupe. For those of you that own either car, they run on Premium unleaded right?

I vote for g35 if your parents are looking for a fun car to drive. The acura probably has a few more luxury items though.

I have always put premium in my g35 since i got it. It will also run on regular of course.

I own a 04 TL as well and love it. And yes, it does require premium.

The 2 don't really compare that well. When I was shopping back in 2004 I got the TL over the G35. The G35 sedan was just horrible to me. The Coupe was sexy on the outside, but I hated the interior, and it had almost no back seat leg room. The sound system in the G35 sounded horrible next to the sound in the TL.

And I can't forget the price difference. A G35 with about the same options as a TL with Nav was about 5K more, and it didn't have bluetooth handsfree. I hope the boys at Nissan fixed that with the 2005 G35.

if i were buying the car for MYSELF, id buy a g35 coupe. if my FAMILY were buying a car, id pick the acura tl.

g35= more sporty, more "cool"
tl= more luxury, more family

imo.

i personally think aestethically:

G35 coupe>Acura TL>G35 Sedan

the g35 looking marginally better than the tl, but the tl looking a lot better than the g35 sedan. id probably get the tl. it looks awesome, has a huge array of standard features... its just a full package for a great price. trunk space is nothing special, but plenty enough. of course, thats just my opinion.

While the G35 Sedan isn't as sexy as the Coupe, I still think the Sedan is very sexy just imo too. I agree that the previous Sedan Models weren't as good but I like the 05 Sedans with the coupe styling & improved interior.

TL's are nice cars but you cant really compare it to a G35 coupe. I would personally get the coupe but for parents I would recommend the TL, actually a G35x sedan over the TL but the latter isn't an option.

G35 has a nice interior now, no more cheap plastic stuff.
