YACT: Acura maintance light :(

Hey guys, just a quick questin about my Integra. Its a 95 gs, bought the car with 89K miles on it, it now has 91K. When I first got it, the maintance light never came on once, and within the last month or two, the light would blink when the car came on, then come off once the car idled normally. Well today the car was reving high ( around 2K) and the light didnt shut off the whole way home from work Its not the check engine light, just the maintance one. I had the car checked out like 3 weeks ago when i changed from my winter tires to summers and they said it was fine all around. I am going in on monday to get my rims put on so I can have the mechanics check it out. My dad works at a dealership so labor is half off, however, I was just wondering on what would cause that damn light to come on? O2 sensor? Thanks.

90k sounds like a timing belt to me.

edit: on second thought, you said it idles high, so my guess would be a IAC, an idle air control vavle, either that or a TPS, throttle posistion senor.

When I bought the car, the mechanincs said it might need a timing belt within the next 5-10K miles If it the timing belt, the will be fixed asap, don't want to mess around there.

Read the owner's manual. I'd bet no one reset it the last time they changed the oil. I'd imagine it works the same as the "MAINT REQ'D" light on my 2001 Civic. It's just there for idiots so every 7500 miles they've got a reminder to go back to the stealership and have someone change the oil/perform scheduled maintenance. The Check Engine light is the one to be concerned about, the Maint light serves no real purpose. If your O2 sensor was shot, it would trip the check engine light instead.

The maintence light will be red around 90k to indicate a timing belt change or other major services, at least it did on my mother's 97 accord. It's yellow for everything else.

Realllllllllllly... I didn't know it was that smart. IIRC, my manual only mentions oil change intervals. Maybe they've dumbed it down since the teg version.

If you know the timing belt needs changed, go ahead and change it!

I have a 97 integra and still need to replace my timing belt... How much does that normally cost if i take it to a repair shop. Not an acura dealership. thanks

Around $350-400 at an independant shop. This includes the water pump as well.

Sometimes you can find it for around $300 (that includes parts and labor. If you find it cheaper, it will generally JUST be the timing belt (and the drive belts), and not the water pump. Since the thing is already apart for the belt, might as well replace the water pump at the same time). Dealer charges much more. Its better than having your timing belt break and you needing a new head because of bent valves. You only need to do it every 90k-105k miles.

yeah, on the integra it's just a reset, there is a button under the under the steering wheel above the petals, you hold it down and turn on the car and bingo no more light. It just for oil changes.

nothing is wrong with your car. it's just a reminder to do maintenance. read your owners manual to find out how to reset it.
