Got a 1992 Park Avenue for $3000...sure it looks and feels like a freakin' boat, but it's comfy as hell :)

honda's are insanely reliable, as most people know..

hahaha yeh, the only 95 civic's for $3-$4k I've seen in my area had at least 150K miles and were DX instead of EX

i'd second both the civic and volvo suggestions. here's my little breakdown for those:

reliabilty: hondas are great, but if you get a pre-ford volvo, it will run forever and ever. advantage: volvo.

operating cost: the hondas will get better mileage and will be cheaper to maintain. advantage: honda

safety: civic's aren't too bad actually, but nothing beats those boxy volvos, especially the wagons, and especially the 240 wagons. advantage: volvo

fun-to-drive: any honda will be more fun to drive than any volvo, although a turbo volvo might outrun a civic. the civic would still be more fun doing it though. advantage: honda

basically either one would be good and it would be up to you.
