Heh no. I actually drive quite spiritedly with a heavy foot. But it gets better gas mileage modded than it did stock. Good tuning I suppose.
City mileage actually does dip as low as 20 sometimes, but that's either if I run the AC (which I do only on the hottest days) or with that crappy oxygenated gas in the winter, or if I got stuck in really bad traffic. 28 mpg would be 100% highway driving. I usually drive in light city traffic, and get 23-24 mpg.

I call shens - you do not have a 951. Maybe you have a carrera or something with a kit on it.

959 had 450hp and the PDK system.

951 is the codename for 944 Turbo S I believe(well in 1989 regular 944 turbos were discontinude and the 944 turbo s were renamed the plain 944 turbo). Stock it had 247hp @11psi or something like it.

The 3s just adds a more powerful engine and a few options that aren't available on the 3i. I don't need the more powerful engine and heated seats, while nice, aren't necessary 🙂

my problem at the moment is that i have a 95 intrepid that i got for cheap about 6 years ago and still runs fine. It is obviously paid off and i am thinking about running it until it dies basically. no car payment is probably a better choice since i have decided to buy a ring soon.

If I drive the speed limit, I'll get 30 mpg all day long. At a steady 80 mph on the freeway, I get just over 28 mpg. It weighs 2,800 pounds, dry, about 3,200 pounds with all fluids, the driver, and normal stuff that I keep in the car (the last trip I took with a passesnger and some excess luggage (probably 3,500 pounds gross weight) and some ventures into 90+ on deserted freeways came back with 27.5 mpg). The '87 and later models (mine's an '86) have 4-channel ABS and dual airbags. The engines are typically good for 300,000 miles with normal maintenance. Mine is at about 156,000 miles, burns no oil, and is mechanically in great shape. I have no worries about it breaking down on me, it never has before. I've never had a Porsche of any kind leave me stranded.

My 951 is 20 years old and I have no reason to think that it won't reliably last me another 20 years.

And Tom, as for your "951s do not get 25/30", how many have you owned to verify that? Properly tuned, and with no vacuum leaks a 951 can easily get 30 mpg on the freeway at legal speeds.
