Uhh, the only thing the Civic has over the Mazda 3 is gas mileage. That may be a BIG factor for some, but the Mazda 3s looks better and will be the better handler/performer. Besides, you can the 3 with a hatch. Hatch > sedan

I'd have to go with the Mazda 3... the Civic has improved looks but still not good enough. The only advantage to the Civic I see is 5 more MPG.

props for the self quote...

and definitely don't wait for the hybrid.

If your top priority is economy, go for the civic...

Otherwise, I'd say go for the 3 :D

While gas is a huge issue, you should also think of your purchase as "can i sit in that car for 2 hours....". IF i had to travel 100 miles a day, i would dump my Altima in a heart beat b/c i cannot sit a half hour in that car with out noticing how uncomfy it is. i am lucky my commute to work is only 20 minutes, so all i care about is getting from A to B.

i have no probs in my mazda3 really for long commutes of a couple of hours. That's the max I've done so far. Hasn't been uncomfortable minus the urge to just get out and stretch. My mom complained a little about the rear seats though, but she has a bad back and is pretty much uncofortable anywhere space is tight.

the rear of the tC... now that was an uncomfortable seat.. no more than 15 minutes.

keep in mind i think the 5sp auto is only an option on the 3s, not the 3i. and the 3i i thought was 150hp...

Wait for the civic hybrid and grab the 3k tax credit early next year. Here are some hybrid pics. There are a few cosmetic changes that you may like. I like the two tone interior better than the regular sedan.

But it looks like ass :p

At first that's exactly what I thought. Especially since the Japanese version is so much sexier. But the design has kinda grown on me.

civic. honda reliability/resale will still win out over mazda's. and i actually prefer this new civic's looks to the mazda's.

I would definitely say get the Civic. Better reseale, new redesign, better gas mileage. 100 miles is a lot to drive in a day and saving 5-8mpg can add up pretty well.

If gas mileage is an important factor, why not get the Mazda3i sedan with the 2.0L engine instead of the 2.3L? Gets within 2-3 mpg of the Civic and is still more powerful.

Anyway, I think the new Civic design is hideous inside and out, and that you'll enjoy driving the Mazda3 a lot more.

I have to agree, the civic has better fuel economy.. although I do like the 3 better overall.
