Friend of mine is strongly considering a new car.

We found a 2003 745li w/39k miles for $41k (that was the pre-haggling price, i'm sure it will go down atleast a little bit with some haggling)

Price included a 100k mile/6 yr extended warrenty.

Is any other car worth considering at the 40k range? To be clear, he is looking for luxury, not really for sporty.

So he basically has a warranty that is good for 6yrs from the original in-service date correct?

This car with all it's electronic gizmos is gonna be one hefty repair bill when/if anything goes wrong after said 6yrs.

I'd personally pick something without I-Drive.

I think the LS430 is a "better" choice since it's more luxury oriented and without a doubt more reliable.

But it's about as exciting as a tub of butter. The BMW is nicer looking and demands more attention. So it's give a little and take a little.

Tell him to look into the Q45. He can have great luxury without promoting the fact that he has a small penis.

The warranty on the BWM helps. If it didn't have that I'd be scared to death of the repair costs down the road.

Personally, I'm not out to get attention. I just want something that is comfortable and reliable, so I lean the way of the LS. Even though I know that the BMW is the better looking and more prestigious vehicle.

In all honesty, I'm going to be targeting an LS460 about three years down the road once they start getting turned in off lease. I think it's probably one of the best luxury cars ever produced. Similar style to a BMW. Acceleration of a Porche. Lexus reliablility and refinement :)

Depends. If it
s BMW CPO, then yes, warranty starts from thr original date of purchase. If it's just an aftermarket extended warranty, then it could be X months and to 100K on the clock.

I liked the newer 7's, (have owned a couple of the older ones over the years), but the I-drive had quite a few bugs in it for the first few years. (not sure if they're fixed or not) Consider, it runs on Microsoft software..."Damn, gotta pull over to the side of the road and re-boot my car!" ;)

Well the original date.

So it'll be good through 2009 or 100,000 total miles, not 2012 or 139k miles.

If that's what you are asking

I'd also take a look at later Q45s and A8s. I personally think that ths LS430 of that generation is an extremely boring car, and I'm not a fan of the S Class.

The I-Drive in the earlier 745s sucks. They improved it a bit in the next couple of years, but I wouldn't want the first or second year car with it.

audi A8? chrysler 300 SRT-8?

the SRT is a different market car, but a brand new one is 42k, so i thought i'd throw it out there. used A, S, and RS6's might not be so bad, either.
