Just search eBay using the search term, "SVT Contour" to see what come up for my car.

Is this a 20 HP Mod or is it like putting a Type R sticker on the back?

It does do something.

IIRC, it's a resistor that you put between the airflow meter and ECU. It changes the reading the ECU gets, changing the fuel output of the injectors.

It either makes you run rich, or lean. Can't remember.

I am sure it doesen't give you 20HP, and if it makes you run lean, it means "extra tasty crispy engine".

lol - I figured as much...

Actually, I think if I did this mod, got a Tornado and a AEM CAI, I'd be getting 250+ HP at the wheels EASY!

That crap is worthless, u'll end up wondering why your car is running like crap if you get it.

I'm pretty familiar with the dyno charts from those mods. The MOST gain ever was 5HP on a 230HP engine. All it does is make the engine think the incoming air is cooler than it really is and add fuel.

It makes you run rich. If the car detects that there is more air moving it, it will add more fuel.

I doesn't give you jack sh!t in performance.

I'm thinking of selling my SHO for an contour svt... how do you like the car?
Make sure the SVT is thoroughly checked out by a mechanic before you buy it and get one with low miles. Reliability is not his car's strongpoint.

It is a great car to drive. Great engine, smooth transmission, awesome suspension, fantastic front seats.

That's garbage. The IAT is there for a reason. It works by sensing the temperature of the incoming air and adjusts fuel mixture accordingly. That resistor will make it "see" a certain (cold) temperature all the time. Since colder air is denser and combusts better with fuel than hot air, it'll cause your car to run a bit rich when it's hot out.

If you really want to try it, I bet with a little research you could determine the necessary resistance yourself either through research on the Internet or taking a VOM out and measuring resistance across the IAT when it's cold out and go buy a pack of those same resistors at Radio Shack. It's like $.99 for a 5 pack. Then you can sell those on Ebay just like this guy's doing and make a killing off of ricers and n00bs.

It just confuses the ECU into running in closed-loop. It's analogous to running a carbureted engine with the choke on.

They do make aftermarket chips for alot of cars. They do perform quite well. They sure as hell dont cost 20 bucks. You tell me if its legit or not ;)

KKM makes a $200 chip for my car and they make good stuff. It's hard to resist paying $1 per HP though even if you never get it and just add wear to your engine instead... ;)

You're missing the salient part of his advert, though. The deceptive part is ".....will definitely increase your HORSEPOWER up to 20 hp.".......so if it actually only adds 0.2HP, he's fulfilled his promise. And that resistor will NOT add 20HP to that engine, no matter what he "says".

And this resisitor does NOT function like a K&N chip or any other chip one has to put into the ECU of the car. Those are programmed chips for SPECIFIC vehicles and are curved for horsepower gain across the entire engine spectruma nd DON'T make your car run rich all the time, like this does.

From one Contour SVT owner to another, save that 20 bucks for a tank of 93 octane gas we have to feed our beast. It sounds like it could do more harm than good. Running the engine rich isn't necessarily bad, but you're gas mileage is going to decrease. Same thing if you get one of the chips. Ford has tweaked the SVT Duratec pretty much to the limit to wring out the HP. If you want more than stock HP I'd say get a turbo, which of course means a new chip anyway. What year is your Contour? If it's one of the older SVT's can't you upgrade to the 99 and up throttle body?

I wouldn't ever seriously consider this item, but it is fun thinking about cheap horsepower...

Yes, I have an early 1998, it has a KKM Tru-Rev intake and KVR brakes as performance upgrades. I am more interested in getting the CEL and Oil light to go out than actually "upgrading" at the moment...
