YACT#2: Are Porsche 928s any good?

Again found a cheap one around here that needs little work. Are the 928 models any good though?

One of my high school teachers was a car enthusiast and he bought a used 928. I forgot if they're 8 cylinder or 12, but he loved that car and rarely ever drove it. They look nice, especially the back. How much are they selling it for, and how many miles?

first off they're 32valve v8. Second the guy advertises it as 86 928s4... they didnt make s4 trim till 87. But either way i dont know the milage, i just found the ad. But hes asking 6500/obo


EDIT: actually it seems that they did make the s4 trim in that year... yay. Ill definitely give him a call tomorrow

Are you referring to 1997? Lol, they made the s4 trim long before 97.

i test drove an early model 928, it was pretty sweet. the 911 felt better, but the 928 was pretty sweet also.

I have a friend that's a 928 entheusiast (he has two, an 84 and a 92). He spends ~ 3 thousand a year in maintenance (each). He's on all the lists and clubs, he's very knowledgeable about the car ... he does some of the minor work himself (and does an excellent job).

They are very comfy, very stylish .... but very expensive to maintain. There is no such thing as a cheap Porsche repair (or maintenance), and 928s are fairly maintenance dependent. If the seller hasn't been maintaining it "right," you'd be buying a massive cash drain.

I like 'em, but they're not cheap to fix and keep.

my friend had one....dunno what year. swwet car but only gave like 9 miles per gallon of premium gas. thats something to consider...esp when the gas prices are rising

Along the lines of scottmac I've heard that these cars are horrendously expensive to maintain. Ghastly, in fact.

They are cool, but especially if you intend it to be a daily driver it's going to cost you.

It has an engine in the front and its an automatic..
They are nice..

It gets better than 9 mpg.. If you are getting 9mpg, then something is wrong.

If you must have a Porsche the 944S2 is the best price point and better for road work. Check out the links I set you.

A 928 S4 is for rich old ppl as most of them are Tiptonic (a/t). The m/t clutch is a twin disk Sachs, cost $800 just for
parts and will not tolerate drag race launches.
