My gf has an old mr2 that was left to her a while back. This car was left to her in 92'. Back then she couldnt even drive, so its been pretty much forgot about until now.

It's was sitting in a paved lot , in a warehouse that is family owned for quite some time. The tires are flat and a friend of mine says it might need a transmission fluid change, oil change, new tires, maybe some more. I would love to restore this car, but dont know where to start learning about doing it. I'm sure there alot of car buffs here, so how would you go about doing it?

There a small catch that the car has to be moved because of construction in the lot it is currently in. But the tires might need to be replaced. I've only gotten tires from like discount tire, where you drive in and drive out. Is there a service that will install, mount and balance your tires from wherever the car is? I have no clue where to start on learning how to fix this car.

www.mr2oc.com <--MR2 forum, a good place to start.

Awesome cars. Mind you, the '91 and '92 have a tricky suspension setup, which can be somewhat...unpredictable to your run-of-the-mill driver. Watch for that snap oversteer! Is it a turbo?

As for the tires, see if they'll hold air...if not, try using that fix-a-flat stuff, just to get it to a tire shop (don't continue to use those tires, of course). Get some decent quality tires, not cheap crappy ones...it makes a huge difference.

Once you get new tires, change your transmission fluid, oil, you might want to do a coolant flush+fill, check/change pads+rotors, air filter, plugs+wires, belts...

How many miles?

discount tire will come to your car for an extra fee. you might want to put a can of fix-a-flat in each tire. it may get them to hold air enough to be towed. The tires are probably just flat.

Bad thing is the car isnt registered or insured in NY, so we'd have to lug it around on something. What do you think would be the best way to get it to a tire shop? Towing? We have an xterra 4x4 now so maybe that could help.

The car has 48K miles.

Thanks for the forum link, its a great start.
