YACT: 1991 Dodge Daytona

Or, at least, it's around a 1991. Has 175K miles, bad CV joint, broken shifter cable, needs paint job, detailing, some interior fixing up. They want $75 and it will cost me $250 to get the car moving again, less than $1000 for the whole thing to be nice.

Anyone know anything about the V6 engines in these cars? HP numbers etc?

should be cheaper to maintain than the turbocharged 4 cylinder version. Looks like a good deal, just make sure you're going to drop the whole 1.2k, 'cause there's not much worse than a car with a whole lot of unrealized potential (ie: ugly).

3.0L 6 cylnders were terrible, expect to burn/leak a lot of oil.

Edit: I would buy and restore for nostalgia reasons. This was my first car although it was a 1986.

$75 and the motor is fine.
What is the rest of the car like (rust wise)?

If the body/frame/floor is mint then it is a good deal.

The V6 isn't so bad. As long as it is in good mechanical shape it should be fine.

The fun will start when changing the spark plugs.

Just make sure you put a new timing belt and water pump on it. Bad things happen if it breaks 😉

But as others have said expect it to use some oil. And a CV joint can be had for less then $80 and a cable should be around 20-60.

If it runs good, as good as a sun $1000 car can, then get it. Worse case you don't want it, put about $300-400 in and clean it up and sell it for $1100 or so.

these engines burn oil, bad head gaskets are common, the water pump is driven by the timing belt if i remember right.
not the worst V6 ever made but far from the best.
these are throw away engines, meaning, don't rebuild one if they got lots a miles on them and go bad.

Before my friend foolishly shifted badly enough to damage the cable, the car ran just fine. I don't think the engine is having any problems yet.

Off the top of my head the 3.0l had 141hp and I think 160ft-lbs of torque. Its a smooth little engine but I like the rattling noisy turbo 4 banger better but you could fix it and sell it.

i had an 89 daytona. fun car... to hit a deer with. I could have got maybe $500 for it, the tranny was gone, the engine was shot all after about 160,000 miles. I hit a deer and they wrote it off.. And gave me $2200 for it. 😀
