YACHT: Credit history

My credit card was recently stolen from my jacket (with some other stuff). I called to cancel it (after only 3 months) and to get a new one from Mastercard. I did this through their "lost and stolen cards" dept.

Is this the same thing as just out-right canceling the card?

From the other credit history thread I heard it was terrible to do. And I am only 18...

Building credit is the only reason I have a credit card. I don't have a need for one otherwise. Just wondering if the a-hole that stole my wallet hurt my credit score too.

Not the same thing.....

So even though a credit card number under my name was cancelled, it doesn't show up on my credit history? Or it simply doesn't affect my credit score?

In your credit report, the closed account in question will bear a notation of being lost/stolen. And you probably got a replacement and didn't cancel the relationship with the bank outright, so it should be plain to any credit officers what occured.

I doubt the bank is going to mention this on your credit report. It's a simple internal procedure that has nothing to do with your credit. You didn't actually cancel your account, just got a new card.
