Cameron is a gold glover, Sheffield is old enough to be my grandfather. Not really, but he's old.

Well after Sheffield's comments about the trade rumors, why would any team want him?

You wouldn't say anything if the Yankees wanted to trade you to the Mets? hahaha

Considering the way the Yankees are playing this year, and the 3-3 tie in the Mets/Yanks series this year, I'd say it's not that bad a deal to go to the Mets.

Sheff for cameron? Puhhhhhh lease. If the yankees were trying to get someone like Shef, they would probably have to start with a package of Duncan/hughes and include someone like wang/cano + one more prospect. Cameron is a life time .250 hitter who strikes out a ton. I dont think his defense makes up for the difference in their offense(although cameron is having a fine offensive season) Now if they included someone like lastings milledge or that petit guy, then it would be a whole differnt game.

Sheffield is psychotic and after his little rant and tirade, any possibility of a trade to any team is probably over.

But the trade still doesn't make complete sense for the Yankees.

And I cant belive that they are trading someone like Wang away. They need to replace Brown this offseason and why spend 6 to 8 million on a #4 or 5 pitcher if you can get by with Wang making 500gs. This is exactly the reason why they have such a sh!tty payroll.

THEY ARE NOT GETTING RID OF SHEFF. Torre said so himself. He said the Yanks were approached by the Mets, and the offer was promptly rejected. Sheff wants to only stay a Yankee.

"The Yanks get constant requests about rookies Robinson Cano and Chien-Ming Wang, but are currently uninterested in including them in any deal."

But manager Joe Torre said before Wednesday's game that the Yankees had turned down the Mets' offer for Sheffield, adding that he had informed Sheffield of that fact shortly after he had spoken with reporters.

"Yeah, there was conversation [with the Mets], but that particular thing with trading Sheffield, we turned that down," said Torre, who was asked by Brian Cashman to talk to Sheffield after the general manager couldn't get a hold of him. "I wanted to let him know that we turned down any inquiry about him from the Mets. We said, 'No, thank you.'"

Not so fast...

Yesterday, however, Yankees manager Joe Torre asserted that such a trade wouldn't take place. "We turned it down," said Torre, who relayed the same message to Sheffield. "... I wanted to make sure he heard it from me ... Yes, they asked. We said no."

A National League official, however, contended that it was just the opposite. That Yankees general manager Brian Cashman pitched the proposal to his Mets counterpart Omar Minaya, who then issued a counterproposal. And at that point, the Yankees declined.

Seems a little strange to me. On one hand we have Joe Torre on the record saying this, on the other hand we have an unamed league official. Joe Torre is not known to lie publicly. Besides, trades are not submitted to the league until both teams agree in principle. How would a league official even know who approached who?
