YABBT: DVD Player Broken

GasX

Lifer
I bought a cheap DVD player at Best Buy a few months ago and it is already broken - it just refuses to read disks. I don't have the receipt and I don't have the box. Is Best Buy going to take this back or do I have to deal with the manufacturer?

Did you buy the extra warranty ? How long ago ? Did you get a lens cleaner and clean the lens ?

If BB doesn't take it back, I wouldn't consider that screwing you. For one, you don't have the receipt. Two, you don't have the box. Three, it's probably out of their return timeframe. Four, that's why manufacturers give warranty on their product.

This is too funny..

1. You don't have a receipt.
2. You don't have a box.

So, you have no proof that the player was ever bought from BestBuy, but you are wanting to know if you are going to get screwed from BB?

Hey Dummy! You screwed yourself..

No
About 4 months
No

Basically, you put a disk in and the screen says BAD - meaning it can't read the disk. It also seems to respond slowly to the eject button, but that might just be its nature...

OK, "screwed" was the wrong term, but there are plenty of companies that focus on good customer service that provide hassle free returns...

4 months is too long. Because its out of warranty and out of the return time frame, you screwed yourself by not keeping any materials. This is not a best buy problem.

given the time frame... probably not

It just sucks to have something break so fast. My other DVD player has been working beautifully for about 7 years.

It does suck, but then again you shouldn't have bought a craptacular DVD player probably made with second hand parts from Best Buy.

we bought a cheapo dvd player from walmart a couple of years ago, i honestly dont think it lasted a month.

A lot of cheap players only have 90 days warranty. If it was a real cheap one just buy a new one, it will be easier in the long run. BB can look up your receipt for you but if it did actually have a 1 year warranty you'd be better off just contacting them directly and RMAing it.

if it is longer than 90 days, it is out of warranty anyway, so just throw it away and buy another one

cheap electronics (no matter where you buy them) only have a 90 day warranty, not 1 year

so 4 months, is greater than 90 days

Keep the boxes and the recipts next time?

Newegg has taken returns from me on cheap cd-rom's up to a year later... Now I know not to buy cheap optical drives 🙂
