Well after having trouble sleeping and and reading some of the posts here I made an appointment to see a Dr. I went into the consultation to ask about Ambien, Lunesta, or any other ideas. The Dr. suggested Ambien.

Anyhow, so I took the first one last night. I noted the time as 9:44 and waited for the effects to kick in. Below are the times I noted in Notepad (yeah I was keeping notes :p)

10:00pm ......nothing
10:10pm.......nothing
10:15pm.......a little light headed
10:25pm.......a bit tired at this point

7:30am.........I wake up in my bed fully clothed with the tv on in the living room. First of all I haven't fallen asleep with the tv on since I was 14, second I have no recollection of getting into bed. Third, I was a little groggy which isn't what I was hoping for.

So what is the deal with this stuff? I see that it is labled as a hypnotic but what does that mean? Does it affect the memory? (ah the things that you wished you asked your doctor...)

Oh, btw, I took a pill at 12:52 and it is now 1:22. Weird stuff should start happening within the next 10-15 minutes. ;)

When I was on Ambien, my girlfriend told me that when the alarm clock went off in the morning, I would hit the snooze button, and be back asleep before my head hit the pillow again. I have no recollection of doing this.

Grab a piece of paper, and write down how you feel as time progresses. Maybe you'll have written some strange stuff down that you don't remember when you wake up. :p

Ambien is a powerful drug that that Aventis somehow tricked the FDA into thinking didn't have abuse potential. The effects, if you don't go to sleep, are:

euphoria
drunken-like behavior, and...

...incredible amnesia.

That stuff is worse than Rohypnol. Just wait till the frat boys get ahold of that stuff - date rapes are going to occur more frequently for sure.

Hmmm, I have 28 pills left. 28 chances to score!

Its a surprisingly euphoric feeling, actually. Its hard to believe that stuff is legal.

But I prefer opiates any day of the week. Oxycodone is the best feeling there is to be had in a pill, legally.

I'm just writing to see how long I can remain coherent. Hopefully I will stop at that point and not follow in Goosemaster's footsteps. :p

The stuff is definitely kicking in now. I keep losing my train of thought and before I know it I find myself staring at Windows Media Player's ambience effects as a song plays.

I got these pills because I was waking up several times per night. The result was that I apparently wasn't getting enough good sleep because after several months of this I was beginning to have serious problems concentrating at work, while driving, no energy, etc. I would wake up feeling like I never went to bed and I would go through the entire day feeling like I never fully woke up. This was day after day after day after day for the last couple of months.

FWIW, I made an honest attempt at using diet and excercise to control the problem but no luck there. My problem wasn't falling asleep, it was staying asleep.

Hmmm, almost an hour now and I am not doing a Goosemaster impersonation.

Yup. I dunno, I had a script for it due to a sleeping problem I had/still have and it's not as hard as people make it out to be. If anything it made me slightly sleepy. For something that COMPLETELY erases your memory eat some xanax. To hallucinate drop some acid or make some shroom kool-aid. To just get leaned out opiates are going to be your best bet (methadone being my fav). Ambien to me just seems like a regular ol sleeping pill. :/

Sounds like you may have sleep apnea. Are you overweight? Do you snore?

Man, it's not going to just knock you out. You have to take it, then go lay down and turn off the lights and try to go to sleep. It *helps* you go to sleep.

Apparently it knocked me out last night, but I get your point.

I'm not really trying to fall asleep right now. I am just trying to see what it is like to stay awake with one of these pills.

Exactly. Sitting up at the computer is not going to help you deal with this sleeping problem. If you want knock out pills, you should get yourself some chloral hydrate. That and a little alcohol constitutes the famed "Mickey Finn"'s of yesteryear.

Yes to both. Working on the weight issue and I may be following up on the apnea thing because the Dr. was thinking the same thing.

I am already scheduled to go back for some bloodwork to check for a few things because I haven't seen a doctor for ~10 years. When I go back for the results the Dr. says she will want to check my progress with the Ambien.

Well if that is your goal eat several more, then fight off the initial omg i need to go to sleep-ness that will come. If you have only eaten one or two don't expect much. I ate something like 4 or 5 one night and stayed awake. No hallucinations, just kind of an I don't really know how to put it type of feeling. Not cool enough to be a good recreational drug imo.

I've been a bit more restrained. pot(when I was a teen) and Xanax (also as a teen) are pretty much it. The Xanax was very cool but it was also the only thing that caused a distinct craving for more so I ended that quick.
