I think they look kinda funky, and if i wanted a 2wd Ute that could carry a family (and throw a dirtbike or fourwheeler or similar on the back at the weekend) or as a work vehicle that would be carrying people and lighter loads primarily i'd jump on one ;) Much nicer to drive than a dual cab hilux/bravo/courier 2wd ute...

There's also the AWD flavour

Not since the El Camino has a vehicle of that type been sold here, by GM anyways.

Subaru Baja is similar to that Holden.

I have never seen one like that before. Hoever during the 70's and 80's they made and sold EL Camino's.

Also, Ford made a similar type vehicle, but I do not remember the name. And wern't EL Camino's sold under Pontiac, Oldsmobile, or GMC brand names?

I stand to correct my self, Ford and GM started making them back in the 50's! I found this link in google.

I've only ever seen maybe 5 Subaru Baja's (same style of car), so I can't imagine it'd be worth it to GM to bring it over here.

Subaru also made the Brat back in the 80's and it was the precursor to the Baja.

WTH is a Roo Bar? I'm imagining something like the cattle plow on the front of a steam engine...

I guess you didn't get enough answers about "utes" to satisfy you in the thread
HERE
that had 176 replies?

Or perhaps you were interested specifically in Holden's "ute" which you Posted About exactly one day less than a year ago.

...

i guess you'd call them a 'bullbar'?

Just an aluminium or steel or very heavy plastic wraparound bumper that protects the entire front end bodywork from pesky roos ;)

meh, my memory sucks. It's pretty sad that you took the time to dig those up.

Anywho, i don't like bumping old threads, even if i could, and it's interesting to get a more recent view on matters. Your concern is noted however, and ignored.

"protects the entire front end bodywork from pesky roos"

Are you referring to kangaroos?

I think they look kinda funky, and if i wanted a 2wd Ute that could carry a family (and throw a dirtbike or fourwheeler or similar on the back at the weekend) or as a work vehicle that would be carrying people and lighter loads primarily i'd jump on one ;) Much nicer to drive than a dual cab hilux/bravo/courier 2wd ute...

There's also the AWD flavour

The 'UTE' died with the El Camino and Ford Ranchero (?) in the US. You guys are the only ones actually liking those cars on planet earth right now.

:p

Don't forget about the Subaru Brat with the factory mounted seats and roll bar in the bed of the Ca-tuck (car truck).

Many Subaru Brats have gone under heavy conversion to a Big Foot Style tyre with four wheel drive.
