Ok Im looking to buy a new car (ME and Not my Parents). Right now I Have an 88 Ford Ranger. I would really like to get a car though.
These are some of the basic specs im looking for.

Manual Tranny
V6 or V8--V6 is better cuz its cheaper
2 Door
Sporty Looking
GOOD RELIABLITLY---AND A LONG LIFE.
Something newer like a 95-98

I have been looking at Honda Civics, Toyota Celicas, and Honda Del Sol's

I know that Hondas are long lasting, with good gas mileage. But im not 100% sure thats what I want.

Basically I'm asking you to tell me some cars that you have has expericance with
and that you could recomend to me. If you happen to know someone who has a car like this within 100 or so miles of charlotte NC please LMK.

Looking to spend around 5k-8k depending on the varibles.

One more thing
The main reason I was thinking about Hondas was because I have heard that they make alot of aftermarket preformance parts.
If you know a place or have some info on the aftermarket parts for a del sol or civic, Please let me know.

Thanks,

Josh

Even though you didnt mention it, maybe a Mazda MX-5 (Miata) would be a candidate? Its small, sporty, two door, I'm not sure about power, its not exactly really strong, but enough to have a lot of fun with. Its also available w/ manual. Not very expensive either.

IMO, I dont really like Honda del sol. I think it looks ugly, but whatever you like. Civics arent really "sporty" cars, but they are reliable and inexpensive. A Celica would be nice, more sporty than a civic. And if you buy a Civic and buy aftermarket stuff you will be flamed as a ricer on this board:D

EDIT: Whats your budget?

I'd go with 97+ Eclipse / Talon (turbo AWD only, rest is no good)... oh wait i did :)

If you want a real sports car, go with RWD or AWD.

heres a few other thoughts:
nissan 300zx > v6
mitsu 3000gt > v6
dodge stealth (3000gts ugly brother) > v6
toyota mr2 > i4

I dont care if im flamed as a ricer, im not gonna get a 5 foot wing to go on the back or get flames painted on the side. I just want some performance parts to make the vehicle perform to its max.

That's not a lot of cash for what you're asking...

Isn't your Ranger worth more than that anyway?

The only thing I can think of in that age bracket/price range that fits your description is a Mercury Cougar.

Yea, I'd keep your 99 ranger.

And 5k-8k is alot, because I have seen a lot of the cars locally for this price in what I want. I was basically wanting some recomendations.

You'd have to look hard to find a civic in that price range. Those are massively overpriced for used. What about a 97 Altima GXE?

I agree - a Z28 or Mustang GT. They're fairly cheap, very reliable, have lots of go-fast goodies, are plenty fast to start with, and if it breaks it's cheaper to fix then an import.

I see 92 or 93 Civics and Accords with somewhat high miles (although not bad for a Honda) for 5k. I wouldn't even bother with one unless you're greatest concern is reliability but they're not even fast if you care about that.

once again,
if youre looking for sportcars, honda is not the place to looks (ecept for s2000 :) )

Mustangs are decent, tho some parts are cheap. Theres some part on the suspension thats made outta fiberflass ((U joints?), when you hit a big pothole, your front will end up grinding the road

EDIT: Little more about hondas, theyre not fast and it takes TONS of money to make em semi fast. Even type r civic, every riceboys wet dream, runs only 14s so even stock z28 would slap it around

87-93 mustang 5.0 gets my pick

250k miles are easily done on a well taken care of 5.0. Sure there are many of them out there but they get fewer by the day. Performance is outstanding on a stock car and INSANE on a modded one. Test drive one. Sure a V6 may seem damn fast in a small car, but then take a spin in a 5.0 :)

They can be easily found in great shape for under 8k.

edit - I have a 93 and i've done some crazy sh!t in my car and have NEVER had the front end scrap the road. You will def feel it when you hit a pot hole but no way in hell you are going to scrap the road cus of it.

Del Sol is a nice roadsters but it's not fast. Civic is pretty much everywhere and its quite pricey for a used one. I would recommend Infiniti G20 if you can find one. The touring version are quite slick.

no no,
i was talking about 94- present mustangs. The place where the front suspension hangs on is made outta fiberglas. When that joint goes, the wishbone get pushed into the wheel well.

The only thing about pre 94 mustangs is the fac that theyre kinda ugly ... ;)

If you want something you can get fast and it wont cost you much, go with eclipse or talon. For about 2 -3 gs you can get the awd version down to 12 secs and you dont have to sacrifice comfort or anything. I got my talon (turbo awd 5 speed) for 6900 with 78k miles on it. I can't wait for winter so i can play around in snow (AWD, handbrake and halik is baad combination ...).
