i went to college with them. so i've known them for like 6 years

Well, if you're not great friends with them, you want to give them a gift that is at least the cost of the plate.

If you were better friends, anywhere from 1.25-2.00x cost of the plate.

Best friends? I'd probably be spending a couple hundred on them.
