socket 754 btw. i have been able to undervolt it to 1.25 V at 1400 mhz and it stays ~ 35C

i have a 120mm power supply fan pulling air over it. should i try taking off the heatsink?

how much heat could it produce? i think i'm going to unplug the fan and see how it goes. i can always turn it off if the temp shoots way up

and thanks for believing in me

Just unplug the fan (while the processor is downclocked, if you want to be really safe). Safer, accomplishes the same thing.

Honestly, though, it doesn't seem likely that a 120mm fan incapable of getting an undervolted A64 to ridiculously low temps would really be all that loud. I could be wrong, of course, but it seems a lot more likely that the noise is caused by your chipset fan or your video card fan. Hard drives are also a possibility.

Buwahaha, that was the funniest part of the video ! Not even the vaporizing Duron could top that.

Tell me your temps first of all.

Don't listen to some of these guys, because its very easily doable. My friend has a Thermaltake Sonic Tower and a Venice 3000+ overclocked. He has like minimal fans in his comp too, so I believe it's quite possible. It just depends how good your HSF is. If you had like a XP90c or an XP-120, maybe, but if you take it off, you lose serious cooling to the MOSFETs and RAM modules....
