Yes, it's probably just muscle pain, and yes I will go see a real doctor if it doesn't go away by friday, but you guys are here, so what the hey 😀
I have annoying (not debilitating. It feels like sore muscle pain from lactose build up, but has been present for 4 days)pain in the joints of my middle three fingers of both hands in the outermost joint (between the distal and middle phalanges). It does not affect my thumb or "baby" finger. My toes/feet/ankles all feel fine.
The pain is not present in a relaxed state, but can be felt as soon as the fingers are bent, or when external pressure is applied to the sides of the joints. The joints do not give any visible indication of swelling or inflammation. Repeatedly flexing the joints, applying hot or cold, "loosens it up", but the pain returns after some time of inactivity.
"things I've done different recently" include exposing my unprotected hands to asphaltic material and hexane. I've read the MSDS on both materials and if they are to be believed, the duration and acute nature of the exposure would not present a problem, and I did not experience any other symptoms of poisoning. (Though I expect most of those symptoms are systemic resulting from inhalation rather than skin absorption).
The only other thing I did differently is I steam cleaned my bathroom. This would have provided a chance to inhale old urine (can urea cause gout from inhalation? there's an odd thought) and any pesticides that were applied to the floor by the pest control guy. I would assume that any pesticide would have degraded in the month since last spraying, and fingertip pain does not sound systemic, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
