There aren't any in eastern MA or anywhere in RI. Thought I found one yesterday in Seekonk, but it was the wrong Yamaha.

I called Yamaha, and the guy asked his supervisor. He said to fill out two forms and mail the forms and UPC, and proof of purchase separately. Just place the copies of the receipt, in each of the envelopes. That's about it.

I hope they get here soon. I just sent them out today. I also sent out one of the Philip's rebates today also. For this price I now have 2 burners, one that's fast and nice, and one that will copy Safedisc2. I sold one of the Yamahas and after the rebates come in, I'll have gotten the 2 burners for free and actually made a few bucks.

IF any one in the Atlanta/GA area did get one of these please let me know. i want to try and do a price match with bestbuy (since they have it) and i think a reciept would be enough for them to price match

I managed to get in on this deal by pricematching at bestbuy....but it wasnt very easy and i probably shouldnt have gotten away with it.

Basically, I was in Augusta, Ga and the staples there had sold out a long time ago. I managed to convice an employee (after much begging and pleading and storytelling) to print me out a price label. I then took the label to bestbuy and after getting rejected once, an employee filled out the pricematch form for me WITHOUT calling staples. However, bestbuy is supposed to call staples to verify the price after you bring them evidence of the cheaper price....i just got lucky. I got my burner, and a friend of mine got one too, but a second friend was in the middle of buying the burner when the manager came back saying they COULD NOT pricematch because best buy does not pricematch clearance/closeout prices. They let me and my friend keep our burners (since we already payed) but said my other friend couldn't keep his. poor guy...

Oh well, i hope that helps anyone who is planning to try pricematching at bestbuy.

Btw, i didnt get the extra 10% off with the pricematch, but hey....i cant really complain

Where do you get a printable version of the coupon from Staple? When I try to get $20 off $100 discount coupon "CODE" by telling the local Staple salesperson, he insisited that I must have an actual coupon. So I can't get the discount. I would appreciate help from those of you who have gotten the discount from the local Staple store. For the online staple.com I know there is an entry at the checkout where you can enter a promotional coupon code.

Damn.. i tried and tried to get this burner

but no luck...
ahh! this is the second time i couldent get in on time to get somthing i saw at anandtech.. (ps330 speakers, and this)

Well, I installed my burner last night and just as some ppl have said, it didn't work too well....made 4 out of 5 cds into coasters....and i had to burn at 8x before finally getting a cd to work. Yeah, i was pretty disappointed.

BUT.....

I decided to read up on this burner today, and decided to try a few things. First, I switched the burner to secondary MASTER instead of slave. Then, I changed the IDE channel mode to DMA instead of PIO in Win2k. Well... now IT WORKS FANTASTIC!!! I just ran a few burns at 16x and didnt have a problem... i even burned a cd at 16x while getting online and typing this reply (and of course it finished burning way before i finished typing heheh). The buffer level never dipped below 98% during this whole time. So to everyone else who is having problems or who is weary about this burner, I hope this helps.

1) Enable DMA in Device Manager...
for W9x: ... // DiskDrives | CDROM // Properties // Settings // "DMA" (if box available)
for W2K: ... // IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller // Primary | Secondary IDE // Advanced Settings // Device 0 | Device 1 // "DMA if available"

2) Update firmware here

3) Mount HD and CDRW on different IDE controllers

4) Some recommend using Nero over Adaptec's Easy CD Creator

5) Bolt down the drive on both sides to reduce vibration & noise

i suggest pricematching it with office max. i called one close to me and the said that they did accept competitors coupons... so its the same deal only a pm involved....

oh...pm it so that others can get in on the deal... 1 drive = 1 deal or 1 drive = many with pming it....
