Y does my pc restart when i play certain games

I have a p4 2.4ghz 512ddr ram and a geforce 4 64 mb, but when i try to play certain games ie cricket 2002 and max payne, my pc restarts...could my video card be screwed?? Somebody please help me!!:(

Can you give more details? Which motherboard/chipset? Which operating system? And how far into the game does it crash?

I have the P4 titan 533 845e motherboard and am running xp...it pretty much crashed after i select to start the game...it loads then b4 the picture shows, it restarts.

You more than likely have a bad PSU. Check your voltages on each rail and see if they are low. Start applications and see if it drops. It should'nt really.

also u can check ur motherboard for bad capacitors. that happened to me recently. it only rebooted itself when i went to play CS... gradually got worse... and it began rebooting while i was just surfing the net.

;) Could also be bad RAM but I'd suggest the most likely is driver issues. Try other drivers, both nVidia and your card's manu. Try reinstalling DX8/9 and consider a fresh OS install.

Are you overclocking the video card or system? What's the heat like in your PC? Did these ever run?

thanx all for ur help...it ended up being the driver...i got the latest one from the nvidia site and all is well...once again thanx heaps!!!

my system does that on occation. I attribute it to the way XP caches my HD or buffers something into memory etc. I dislike XP's memory and HD handling. That may or may not be the cause of our problems, but who knows? It could be anything
