Everyone one of these threads works the same way: story is posted and then there is an onslaught of "I don't see the problem" posts.

Do you guys even realize that this has serious legal implications for the school district? Obviously no parent is going to sue the teacher, they are going to go after the deep pockets.

legal problem != actual problem. i think those people you refer to would argue that it shouldn't be a legal problem

I understand what you're saying and I agree but, in the world we now live in, the ONLY problems that exist are legal ones. NO ONE seems to care about performance or responsibility.

Wtf is wrong with these guys ratting out their teachers.

I'd wager they aren't ratting on it, just that in the current era of idiots raised on facebook and the internet, things simply get known because, well, these people are idiots.

Even if they don't post about it, common bragging among friends will mean someone invariably posts about it.

And yet, nobody seems to have a problem paying lawyers exorbitant fees.

I don't get your point. Are you saying dishing out big bucks for settlements is not a real problems because attorney's demand high fees?

Regardless, the District has no power to prevent plaintiffs from filing suit...all they can do is try their best to prevent actionable things from happening.

BTW, I represent school districts. Trust me when I say that my firm's billing rate is incredibly low compared to the rest of the legal industry. This is true for almost all public entities due to their budgetary constraints.

Chalk it up to good ol' south carolina! At least she's cute

Chalk it up to life.

I will fully admit, I would have had no qualms about banging a 35 year old teacher when I was 17. She only would have had to look at me a certain way before I said "alright, where we doing this at?".

Are you saying you would have done anything different?
And yes, it probably would have been the same result even if I had a girlfriend at the time (I may or may not have -- 15-18 I had a few), and I thoroughly believe in being true and living the straight and narrow when in a relationship (no polygamy/cheating, in other words).
Turning down a *hot* adult when dating a high school student (and especially when single) ?! Are you kidding me, it would have been a dirty deed considered guaranteed the moment she gave me any hint of interest. :awe:

And just across the border, a cheerleader coach was arrested yesterday for the same thing:
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/01/07/3769942/cms-teacher-suspended-after-sex.html

Sex, drugs, money! (Myers Park - $$$. I imagine the parents all atwitter.)

that piece is hard to follow. teacher picked up her own kids. had male student beg her for a ride. she says yes and gets pulled over for some reason. then it escalates to where cops search male student and find some sort of drug and male student is arrested and she is released from the scene. then later she has a warrant for her arrest for fucking a student....

wtf.

Consent in SC is 16 so I would guess the charges are because she was a teacher.

there is something bugging me about this and i think it is from a thread here on OT that im thinking about. i seem to remember something about the age of consent not saving some guy from statuary rape. it was not a romeo and juliet law either.

damn it, wish i could remember what it was i read....

I can tell you right now that if a teacher ever did this to my child they would have to arrest and jail the teacher to save them from me.

Anyone failing to grasp the implications of someone in a supervisory role/position of power wielding it in this fashion probably doesn't have kids of their own.

It is against the law due to that. PERIOD.
