Amused is right. You have to click "Yes" on the security pop-ups. The only other way is if it installs without your knowledge packaged in with another installation (i.e. you DL'ed a program you wanted and when it installed, it also installed the spyware without your knowledge). No other way.

I'm very curious how I got the program from one site on more than one occasion, without clicking a single thing. When my IE window refreshed, *boom* the Xupiter toolbar was there.

Can't tell you, Geno, but I'd be more than happy to visit that same site and see if the same thing happened to me (which I find doubtful). My younger bro (who lurks here) claims the same as you do when I rip that crap off his system, but I've never gotten it once even though I have visited sites where the security box pops up (asking to install Xupiter). I always click no.

I think I figured it out. I did a search for Xupiter on my machine, came up negative, then went here (**Warning: Only click this link if you WANT Xupiter on your machine!!**) When I tried to close the window a box comes up asking if I really want to close the window. I said yes, the window closed. Did a search, came up positive for Xupiter :| I never gave it permission to install anything. This is repeatable for me. What does it do for someone else?

i went there with internt explorer and an activex install request popuped and i said no. clicked yes on this is trying to close browser. did a search for xupiter, not found..

maybe your ie is set to automatically allow activex installation?

Hmm, you were right. I don't know how that happened. Someone must have been messing around where they shouldn't have been. I fixed it and got a prompt. Answered "no", and nothing.

I use Spybot to get rid of and "immunize" the browser against such installs. I also use the Google toolbar to stop pop ups and also use SpyWareBlaster to keep active X baddies from the PCs.

I remember my brother going to porn sites on my sister's computer in the Spring and I'd always end up with that program. That thing is a nightmare and that was the first time I installed AdWare. Got rid of it and busted his ass since he was 10.

I went there and all I got was a prompt asking me if I wanted to install Xupiter. I clicked no and nothing else came up... and my machine is still clean.
